MTK 08-12-2008, 11:06 AM Only 2 QBs? Not sure I see that happening. mmil12 08-12-2008, 11:16 AM KEEPING THE FOLLOWING NUMBERS: QB - 3 OLINE - 9 TE - 3 WR - 6 RB - 5 DT - 4 DE - 4 LB - 6 CB - 4 S - 4 S. TMS - 3 THE FOLLOWING GUYS ARE GONE: Wade, Todd Geisinger, Justin Matua, Fred (Keeping Tavares Washington as the last Tackle) Mann, Maurice Gant, Horace McMullen, Billy Mix, Anthony (Toler makes the cut, the Warpath “Love Mix” groove comes to an end) Broughton, Nehemiah James, Erasmus (Can’t break through in a numbers game) Boschetti, Ryan Askew, Matthias Oshinowo, Babatunde (Boschetti’s motor finally succumbs to greater talent) Fincher, Alfred Wallace, Rian Gatewood, Curtis Sinclair, Matt (who are these guys??) Holt, Cedrick Westbrook, Byron (Westbrook just not good enough) Fox, Vernon Hamilton, Justin Ghee, Patrick (The rookies make the team) Practice Squad Jackson, Rob – Can he beat out C. Wilson? Not this year. Goode, Jason Devine, Derek Crummey, Andrew Clark, Devin Tryon, Justin Richardson, Matteral I don't see anyway they cut e. james. Especially since his old college coach is there. I think they are going to give him a roster spot and see what he can do this year. If nothing, he gets cut for next year. No way Toler makes the team. What has he brought to the table the past two preseason games? You mean to tell me he has left more of an impression on the coaches or you then Mix or McMullen? Totally disagree here. Derrick Devine sealed his fate with that pass into the end zone that was short. No way Zorn keeps him around. I know he likes him, but lets face it, what purpose does he serve to this team? Why would you even put him on the practice squad? He will never play, never be a back-up, so why waste time with him? Brennan is JC's future back up and Collins (I know he is old) is here for three years. Don't waste the time or spot for him. Unless Brennan starts stinking it up from here on out, he'd be snatched up by another team if he were to be placed on the practice squad. He'll make the 53-man roster -- he just won't be active. Beemnseven 08-12-2008, 01:02 PM QB: WR: Moss, Randle-El, Kelly, Thomas, Thrash, Mann Cut: McMullen, Mix, Gant OL: Samuels, Kendall, Rabach, Thomas, Jansen, Geisinger, Chad Rinehart, Jason Fabini, Stephon Heyer Cut: Brown, Devin Clark, Todd Wade You have Maurice Mann ahead of Billy McMullen? What in your mind has Geisinger done to beat out Todd Wade? Beemnseven 08-12-2008, 01:09 PM Well, as for results, McMullen has done fine against scrubs in preseason. Unlike Mix, however, McMullen has had opportunities to start in the regular season and has failed at his previous stops. Additionally, his previous failures were on receiver hungry teams - Philadelphia and Minnesota - so it's not like he was the victim of a numbers game. Finally, his success in Zorn's offense up to this point is due in part to the fact that he is familiar with the WCO (even he admits this). Based on all this, I think McMullen will have to do more than "play well" against second teamers to impress. For him, that has to be the bare minimum. Given his history, McMullen needs to play well against starters and dominate the second teamers. As for Mix, I think the buzz is gone for him. It doesn't seem that he has impressed the coaching staff too much. Unlike McMullen who has a history of failure and needed to overcome it, Mix has no history. As such, at this point in his career, Mix has needed to step up, show that he has finally made the adjustment to the pro game, and "play well" against the scrubs. He hasn't done that. I am thinking his hype was just the latest warpath man crush. Right now, I wouldn't be surprised if neither made the final cut. McMullen can't choose which tier of players he lines up against. If he's facing only the scrubs, then that's by the design of his coaches, and all he can do is perform the best that he can despite the level of competition from the opposition. The more I hear, it looks as though there will be six receivers -- and if the roster cut-down were today, I don't see any other wideout that's ahead of him. Beemnseven 08-12-2008, 01:12 PM I know this all sounds like I have a man-crush on McMullen -- I don't, for the record. I just can't identify another receiver who has out performed him. SmootSmack 08-12-2008, 01:15 PM You have Maurice Mann ahead of Billy McMullen? What in your mind has Geisinger done to beat out Todd Wade? Geisinger has been earning praise from his teammates, particularly the QBs for his work handling the offense line while at the Center position. Also, I think Wade will be one of Zorn's "I'm running the show now" cuts. The ones that that every new coach has to remind people that there's a new sheriff in town. I think Wade and Khary Campbell will be the victims of that. McMullen should be playing well. He has extensive experience in NFL regular season games and with the WCO. However, I think this is the best we'll get out of B Mac, a solid big receiver who can shine (to an extent) against nickel corners but likely won't get much playing time. I think Mann on the other hand will get more time on teams, has more upside, and gets better separation as a receiver. I also think the presence of a veteran WCO guy in Thrash makes McMullen more expendable. I wouldn't be surprised actually if McMullen even requested he get released earlier to improve his chances of latching onto another team that could use him more so than we would. I think he'd be a good fit in Denver for example. |
