Todd Collins: Best Backup QB in the NFL?BleedBurgundy 08-26-2008, 02:45 PM The fact that Colt Brennan isn't listed #1 clearly demonstrates his lack of knowledge. FRPLG 08-26-2008, 02:45 PM I am a TC believer but I think the notion that he can execute the WCO better than Campbell is foolish. He is immobile and straight away that is a key compenent of the offense. I have a firm belief that in a pinch he can win us games but that is predicated on a belief that Zorn can gameplan the offense to fit Collins' strengths. If Campbell can just get some confidence he is going to be good. Right now he doesn't seem confident enough to make some of the throws that he can surely make which is why he seems to hold the ball too long. He's gotta drop back. Find the little opening and slam it in rather than waiting for a wide open reciever. saden1 08-26-2008, 02:47 PM Wow, so many former Redskins playing second fiddle. Gus Frerotte, Mark Brunell, Patrick Ramsey, Brad Johnson, Sage Rosenfels, and Trent Green. skinsfan69 08-26-2008, 02:50 PM I think TC is a top 5 back-up. But the best back-up in the NFL is Kerry Collins. I think he's better than half the current starters in the league. He's better than the starter on his own team! I just don't understand why a team like Baltimore doesn't just go out and get a guy like Kerry Collins. dmek25 08-26-2008, 02:50 PM you had to go and bring up Patrick Ramsey, didnt you? Schneed10 08-26-2008, 02:54 PM It's funny, whenever one of our player gets some nice props people want to knock them down. But whenever we feel they got "dissed" we're up in arms over it. You just can't win. It's about being right, not about feeling slighted. TC is not the best backup QB in the NFL; it's a straight-up disagreement with Don Banks. That's all it is. doughtydoubter 08-26-2008, 03:06 PM im with you schneed..collins wins games that were a TOTAL team effort, if JC was in there i have no doubts he could have rallied the troops as well. I think collins did a great job AFTER gibbs gave up the reins to saunders and let him call the offense...but if i was in the same offense for 11 years id hope to have a damn good knowledge of it too.. call me a pessimist. but i think tc is not that great in a new system..hes been a career backup for a reason MTK 08-26-2008, 03:06 PM It's about being right, not about feeling slighted. TC is not the best backup QB in the NFL; it's a straight-up disagreement with Don Banks. That's all it is. It's just his opinion against ours. Not sure how anyone can be proven right in this case. hesscl34 08-26-2008, 03:12 PM Wow, so many former Redskins playing second fiddle. Gus Frerotte, Mark Brunell, Patrick Ramsey, Brad Johnson, Sage Rosenfels, and Trent Green. Poor Brunell.... I wish him the best. Schneed10 08-26-2008, 03:16 PM It's just his opinion against ours. Not sure how anyone can be proven right in this case. Yeah I'm with ya, I don't think anybody's trying to prove their case. You can probably show stats to support one's opinion on the matter, but in the end it's just a debate on opinions. I was just responding to your post saying "you just can't win." It's not about winning with me as a writer, at least in my case. I'm not looking for an opinion to prop up the 'Skins. I'm just looking for good opinions, and I don't agree with Banks here. But it's splitting hairs really, because I do like TC a lot and do think we have one of the better backups in the league. I just can't get too carried away with five starts where the line finally jelled and the WRs finally got healthy. In the minds of the national media (at least in the mind of Banks), Collins went from an unknown assumed to be a bum in 2006 to the best backup in the league after 2007. Both assessments are on the extreme end of reality, IMO. |
