Jansen was very solid today

In Zorn's press conference, he said that if Heyer is well enough to play, then he'll get his job back. So it looks like Jansen will be starting only until Stephon has healed.

Heyer earned this job. He came in and played very well as an undrafted rookie last year. I don't think people understand how big that is at a position like tackle. He held OUR Jason Taylor in check. This year he adapted Randy Thomas' work out and put on 30 lbs. of muscle. Jansen is solid, but according to the head coach, there were too many mental mistakes on his part and they felt that Heyer could anchor better in pass pro. Your back-ups are supposed to do what Jansen is doing now...nothing spectacular, but get the job done. Like another poster said- I feel good about both these guys.

The running game has clearly taken off with Jansen in there. Personally I think he should keep the job. If Heyer comes back I hope we don't go back to only running to the left, that's a problem.

hmm...thinking about this one.

If a RT can't pass block, you get em help.
If a RT can't run block, you don't play em.

Run blocking can be learned, pass blocking requires speed.
Ideally, Heyer needs to learn how to drive a man off the ball before he becomes a legitamate long term starter...otherwise, he should be a LT backup and at best RT starter.

Jansen is an ideal backup for interior line and an obvious starter if he can hold his own 1 on 1 against the pass rush....which he has done in the last 2 weeks.

Using that same measure of judgement, why not argue to bench Samuels, he has gotten beaten several times in the last 2-3 weeks for sacks, even with Portis help....ridiculous.
Samuels is solid and Jansen has played as well as any time in the last 3 years...
I say, keep Jansen in until he give up 3 sacks in a game....and that my friends, aint gunna happen anytime soon.

we've run better the last two weeks against very good teams with jansen, so...

Okay, with all due respect, are u insane? Bench the best LT on the roster? Samuels is so much better than ANYONE else on the line it is insane. Has he gotten beaten? Maybe, but if you had Heyer in there, Campbell would have been sacked a lot more. Heyer is solid but still learning - do you think Heyer would have blanked Trent Cole? I dont.

I think Heyer is the long term answer, so for the long run its better to have him in there. I don't think its a huge drop off in the run game with Heyer in there, instead of Jansen.

Couldn't have said it better. I'd take a kick ass running attack above all else.

That is my exact point...no one would ever suggest benching Samuels.

The poll results are interesting given that Jim Zorn continually states that Heyer will get his job back when he's well enough to play.

You can't argue with the numbers. Two weeks of Jansen results in two big running days against teams and in stadiums where it has been tough for us to run. Maybe Zorn thinks Jansen is a bad influence with his RV.

I just can't get that excited about Heyer. He's huge, sure. But he has the look of a man that could break into tears at any moment.
