That would definitely be the upside of it. Of course that assumes that what is being pushed is what's good for the country and the potential downsides and negative impact has been carefully considered.

Speed is great if you've got the right course of action. If you've got the wrong plan, that just means you screw things up even faster.

What you lose when any party has a supermajority is a sense of discourse, of having to justify (in a good way) your plan. Without that it boils down to politicians having free reign.

Maybe it's just me, but I would think that "politicians having free reign" would strike fear in the heart of anyone.

I totally agree with what you're saying. At this point the only thing we can do is what and see how it plays out and hope to god they don't screw it up.

Agreed.

I've got to say it's refreshing to have this election over. I didn't like either candidate much, but I'm ready to just move on and see how things change, hopefully for the better.

I disagree with a lot of his stances on issues, but I do like Obama's temperament and his oratory skills surpass any public speaker in the last twenty years at least.

Here's to burying the political hatchet that's been wielded with reckless abandon over the last year or so. Time to get the economy on the right track, find a sensible way to get out of both wars and start having some thoughtful and rational discourse on the myriad social issues that divide this country.

Are we talking about discourse for the sake of discourse? I really don't know how one has rational and grounded discourse with people like Mitch McConnell, Lindsy Graham, Eric Cantor, and John Boehner.

Politicio has a piece (http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1108/15298.html) on GOP leadership and behind the scene info.

"With the issues before us today come bipartisan opportunities and partisan differences," Putnam wrote. "My current role obligates me to the latter and too often excludes me from the former. I want to fight the battles worth fighting and lock arms to strengthen our nation whenever possible."

I completely agree and it was good to hear McCain make that point in his concession, which I thought he did a fine job with.

The positive of this is things can get pushed through quickly, and on some issues (mainly in regard to those that impact the economy) quick action really is needed.Matty, you've been around long enough to know that Democrats don't do anything quickly.

The only upside I see to this monumental distribution of power is that at the slightest sign of change for the better overall perception in money markets could improve based on confidence.

There could be an opposite effect, however, if large corporations fear the cost of doing business will rise due to a surge in tax changes and increases, along with efforts to bring jobs home.

We shall see.

Matty, you've been around long enough to know that Democrats don't do anything quickly.

Then heres to 2010 when the Republicans allow the government to be divided just as it was under Clinton and bring this country back to prosperity. Actually I'm under the impression now that Republicans are like Norv Turner. They got great ideas and do a pretty good job when they're working in the background. However they can't be a head coach to save their life.
