LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Best-selling author Michael Crichton, who wrote such novels as "The Andromeda Strain" and "Jurassic Park" and created the popular TV drama "ER," has died unexpectedly at age 66, his family said on Wednesday.

Wow, he was only 66? He wrote the Andromeda Strain in the 60s - I figured he was pushing 80. Impressive writer.
Wow, that sucks. Great author. Read several of his books

Unbelievable. I just finished "Next". He was one of those rare authors whose books I could read in one sitting.
He had cancer and didn't disclose it. I've been listening to the news all day and didn't hear anything about it. Got lost in the election coverage I guess.
What a shame.

He was also a leading skeptic on the issue of global warming. I haven't noticed any mention of this in his obituaries.
