This would be a huge blow to the team if CP can't go. I hope he improves as the weeks continues.

Zorn: Portis 50-50 for Sunday

Clinton Portis is questionable at this point and his chances of facing Dallas on Sunday are "50-50," Coach Jim Zorn said after practice today. Portis has a knee sprain that has worsened since the team last played Nov. 3.
Zorn remains optimistic that Portis will play, but conceded that "it would be a major issue for all of us," if he cannot. Zorn said that second-string back Ladell Betts may be back from his knee injury for Sunday's game, but that he is not "expecting" that result.

I hope this IR report from JZ is lesson learned from....ala Gibbs.

Yes we do. As I don't put all my cash in the cheap buy. It doesn't sound great right now, as we know that can change its early in the week.

He has 6 days to get healed up. But we need a healthy CP in this game, to be successful with the ground attack, which happens to be very important.

LB if ready will IMO be not very effective. SA and Rock...enough said.

We are heading down the stretch run, we NEED a healthy CP.

No doubt in my mind that Portis will play.

We need him to beat Dallas. We can get away in Seattle on Jason Campbell's arm, but he's got to play in this one.

I understand it's worse on Monday, but 6 days from now, I can't imagine it won't be better.

I'd like to know when this injury occurred? I've been pretty happy with zorn but he blew it last week,I was screaming bloody murder at him at the end of the game last week, there was no reason for the starters to still be in there with 3 minutes left trying to score a meaningless td,there was a play in the last 3 minutes where Portis was tackled on the sideline, looked kind of like a horsecollar tackle and he got bent back very awkwardly and i thought for sure he was hurt,I'd bet it happened on that play.
If Alexander is our starter our def better come up big,I'd rather have Sellars start than Alexander

Practice: Moss, Springs, Betts, Others in Skicaps

From Jason La Canfora:

Practice has begun and Clinton Portis is not on the field. Santana Moss, Marcus Washington, Shawn Springs, Anthony Montgomery and Ladell Betts are wearing skicaps, not helmets, and are limited at best. In fact, Montrgoemery isn't even in pads. We do not see Todd Collins, either.

Malcolm Kelly and Jason Taylor are in full equipment.

Jim Zorn will give an update after practice.
Damn it. I can see us taking a dive the rest of the way. We are always banged up badly. Romo coming back probably and CP out along with Springs and Moss and you got trouble. Sorry guys, but if we can't field our starters for our divisional games the rest of the way I can see us experiencing a second half collapse and missing the wildcard. TB and Atlanta are really playing solid ball. Unlike JC, Ryan gets the ball into the endzone on a regular basis, and the Hawks have a nice dual back thing going as well. TB is pretty solid also on both sides of the ball. I am feeling a 9-7 or 8-8 season coming on if we don't get healthy. I thought the bye would have been just the thing for that. I just hope this is some sort of psyche job on Zorn's part.

No it didn't. It happened late in the first when he got up limping and went straight to the sidelines.

LANDOVER, Md. -- Washington Redskins (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=was) running back Clinton Portis (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=3579) was unable to practice Monday because of a sprained knee, and coach Jim Zorn said Portis is "50-50" for Sunday night's game against the Dallas Cowboys (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=dal).

NFC East blog

ESPN.com's Matt Mosley writes about all things NFC East in his division blog (http://myespn.go.com/blogs/nfceast).
• Blog network: NFL Nation (http://myespn.go.com/blogs/nflnation)

Portis bruised his knee on the final play of the first quarter of last week's 23-6 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=pit) but returned for the next series and finished the game. The pain got progressively worse after treatment following the game, however, and Zorn said Monday that Portis has a bone bruise on the femur as well as a sprain.
Portis is second in the league in rushing with 995 yards on 200 carries.
"He's questionable," Zorn said. "I'd say there's a 50-50 chance. I'm hoping that he'll be even better than that. Another day of rest, and then we'll see how he comes in on Wednesday. ... We've got to get the pain out of the knee and see how he progresses along." Portis' absence from a major game against a division rival would be tough to overcome. He's been the engine of the offense, and his primary backup, Ladell Betts (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=3584), has missed the last three games with a more severe knee injury. Shaun Alexander (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=2150), signed after Betts got hurt, has contributed little, and the other running back on the roster, Rock Cartwright (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=3761), is heavily involved with special teams.

Clinton is not going to sit himself due to a knee. I think the coaches will have to take his helmet and cleats for him not to play. Even then they'll have to assign someone to grab him when he tries to run on the field with bare feet, and no helmet. No way CP doesn't start this game.

How does it get worse doing nothing?

I think Zorn is crafty when it comes to injuries. Remember a few weeks ago when, all of a sudden on game day, Samuels was hurt? Zorn was withholding information. In the case of Portis, I think the team did not talk about his injury too much before for a reason.

And, given this craftiness, I would not be surprised if Portis is healthier than advertised, just so Zorn can mess with the Cowboys's heads.
