Question about cars...

I'm tryin' to sell my Jeep for a more reasonable vehicle. I think I've got it sold and I found a 96 Saab 900s Automatic on Craigs list. He's asking only 1200 for it.

"The car is a 2.3L non-turbo with automatic transmission. The engine and transmission are excellent in condition. The car has about 160000 miles. Its exterior is olive green in color and it has a tan fabric interior. ...the price is $1200. The car runs great. It is a 12 year old car so it is not perfect. But with a little work it could be outstanding. ... Original paint still has shine, and the interior is average for its age."

My bf doesn't know shite about cars...does this sound like a good deal? I mean...I'm trying to get a more economical vehicle as far as gas goes and I'm not trying to spend a lot of money on another car. I get 15 miles to the gallon in the jeep...and it's got a BAD oil leak, needs new tires...just too much for a girl to handle...

Saab probably has the worst reliability reputation of any auto manufacturer on the planet.
It's also very expensive to repair.

$1200 could be a good deal. If you know any mechanics, I would drive the car to them and have them inspect it.

Maybe a Warpather knows a place in your area that would have a look for free.

With a car that old and that many miles it's a crapshoot. Ask for maintenance record. If there's a maintenance record the less likely it'll break down on you tomorrow.

I would not advise someone to spend that amount of money on a Saab of that era with that many miles with the expectation of it being a reliable daily driver. It's an old, European car. Generally, not a good combination.

Only thing worst to buy would be a Range Rover. Saab is crap.

Ill pay you 1200 dollars not to make that move. The potential gas savings are miniscule compared to the cost of mantainence on a 160k mile saab. Keep the jeep or get an old japanese job (*awaiting busters rebuttal :))
