He's an average cornerback who fits in nicely with this secondary. You don't want him full time on a top-tier wideout by any means, but he won't singlehandedly kill you either.

SkinDogg 12-09-2008, 12:08 AM He still pushing those Smoot Energy Bars? firstdown 12-09-2008, 09:21 AM I think its very tough to judge the CB's because we giving theQB's al day to throw the ball. So what might have benn great coverage breaks down when the QB has 5 to 10 seconds to wait for someone to get open. I'm surprised we have done as well as we have with the time giving to the QB. SUNRA 12-09-2008, 10:35 AM Nobody wants to see Smoot excel more than I do. But this is not the Fred Smoot of the past. He is visibly slower and either lacks confidence at the line and gives up too much cushion for WRs. He was successful with the bump and run but time and injuries may have caught up with him. Schneed10 12-09-2008, 10:53 AM I'm turning my attention to cap analysis again as our playoff chances begin to fade. Smoot is a candidate for release in the offseason. If we designate him as a Post June 1 cut, we stand to save $2.0 million on next season's cap. This is dependent upon DeAngelo Hall and whether we resign him, dependent upon what we do with Springs, and it's also dependent upon Justin Tryon's development. But it's not out of the realm of possibility that we send Smoot packing next year. Very true, we have put our secondary in impossible situations with the lack of QB rush........ Hopefully , Hall will work out, re-assess Springs viability for the future, Carlos must continue his development. BUT... WE HAVE TO GET A F... PASS RUSH........ Cause if we do, as First pointed out, our secondary is gonna' look pretty good SmootSmack 12-09-2008, 11:06 AM I'm turning my attention to cap analysis again as our playoff chances begin to fade. I know Madden brought this up 4 or 5 times Sunday night as our secondary kept us in the game. |
