Thanks Ruh No problem!! LOL. Whiteboi_J 01-20-2009, 07:29 PM Hey what's goin' on all... This is part of how i feel about this draft...we need OL. We need them more than DL b/c as stated above, DL are either 1st round busts, or take over a year to develop. (even Mario Williams didn't start clicking till end of rookie season), and most 1st round OL have been successfull in the past few years....remember a couple years ago when the Jets drafted C Magnold and OT Brunswick in the first round and started that year, and won like 10 games? Browns and Joe Thomas? Miami and Jake Long? Denver's Ryan Clady (a rookie) only gave up .5 sacks as a starter this year! 1st round OL have the HIGHEST probability of starting and making an impact as a rookie. As for not trading down and keeping our #13 pick, in the 3rd round C Eric Wood from Louisville - All Big East 1st team should be sitting there and #4 ranked C, G Anthony Parker from Tennessee - All SEC 2nd team should be there, but was arrested for disorderly conduct last year, maybe G Andy Levitre from Oregon State - All American 1st team #4 ranked G, G Trevor Canfield from Cincinatti, #3 ranked G....LOTS of interior lineman will be available in the middle of the 3rd round, plus at least another G as a 3rd round projection. We should either take OT Jason Smith at #13 and draft the best available interior lineman in 3rd ORRRR we could trade down for a low 1st, 3rd, and maybe a 4th or 5th, draft OLB/DT (depending on FA) in 1st, then 2 interior lineman in 3rd, and use the rest for depth at LB/CB/RB ORRRR pick up the best OT wit low 1st, interior OL wit 3rd and possibly OLB Gerald McRath from Southern Miss - 1st team All Conference USA and had 386 tackles over 3 seasons. He can play both OLB or MLB...all he needs to do is bulk up, he's only 220 lbs. As for all y'all that have ur o-line starting line-up predictions, y'all really aren't solving the problem b/c all i see are old head shuffled around. Kendall is a FA and he might be signed to a 1 year deal, or they could just let him go and let Rinehart take over the starting position. Jansen will be around next year, we can't afford to let go of too many people that are still under contract (we should let go of Shawn Springs b/c he'd only cost us $2 million instead of $8 million if we keep him). I think we should trade down, pick up either one of the available OTs or C/OG Alex Mack from Cal or C/OG Max Unger. Then with our 2 third round picks pick up 2 interior lineman (names stated above) or a OG/C and that OLB McRath to add depth behind Washington. Starting OL LT-Samuels LG-Rinehart C-Rabach RG-Thomas RT-Heyer...possibly one of the rookies taking over for Rabach or Thomas....with Jansen and rookies spelling Samuels, Rabach, and Thomas starting 4 or 5 games into the season so hopefully they'll still be healthy in december, then taking over for the old heads once their contracts are up. SmootSmack 01-20-2009, 07:31 PM nice first post. welcome to the board Whiteboi_J 01-21-2009, 11:52 AM thanks. The draft blog on espn's website isn't very active during the day when i'm online most. lol Dirtbag59 01-21-2009, 12:14 PM I'm starting to wonder weather or not we should be looking at Ron Brace, BJ Rali's trench mate at BC. If we're lucky they might end up being an Albert Haynesworth/John Henderson combo but it looks more like Brace is a second rounder at this point with potential to fall to the 3rd round where if we get him Vinny will claim that they had a first round grade on the guy :D. 'Oh Reed Doughty, yeah we had a first round grade on him he stuck out on our draft board like a sore thumb'. Any luck though they won't find anyone to trade down with and walk away with one of the big 4 then maybe they can find an OLB or better yet a Center (or Guard like Herman Johnson) in the third. Whiteboi_J 01-21-2009, 03:07 PM I think the skins need to hire better scouts/player personnel b/c we drafted 10 people last year with 3 in the top 3 rounds, and only 1 had an impact last year (a 7th rounder). that's ridiculous. This year we got 4 picks, and how much i'd LOVE to be able to trade down, Sheehan on espn 980 just brought up a good point. He said that teams don't like trading up into the top 15 now and days cause of the financial obligation they have to those players... We need a player that will be able to start in 2009 and actually have an impact on the team such as an OLB, OL that will start (which would be interior or RT). And the more I think about it, Rinehart might not be the answer, b/c if we were having depth troubles last year, why wasn't Rinehart activated for more games? is it cause he might be a bust? If we draft OTs J. Smith or Oher, they would need to start at RT, and we'd have to slide Heyer to either starting LG if Rinehart is a bust/we can't find anyone else, draft a G/C in the 3rd round and hope they are good enough to start, but most likely they'll re-sign kendall not b/c of want, but b/c of need SFREDSKIN 01-21-2009, 04:18 PM I think the skins need to hire better scouts/player personnel b/c we drafted 10 people last year with 3 in the top 3 rounds, and only 1 had an impact last year (a 7th rounder). that's ridiculous. Many people are talking about drafting a T, when you have a "smart" C like Mack who makes calls at the line like a MLB that makes a huge difference in the line adjusting to the Defense. This guy can also create holes in the middle were you can exploit running up the gut instead of to the outside. In my opinion, he's "the one guy" we truly need. The beauty about centers is they are usually the best value picks year in and year out. Ryan Kalil could easily have been considered one of the 10 best players in the 2007 draft and yet he fell to the second half of the second round. Centers really are one of those positions where you can find a pro bowler in the third round. So personally I would rather find a Tackle in the first and then try and get the second or third best Center with our third round pick. Whiteboi_J 01-21-2009, 04:36 PM Let this marinate for a minute... I've seen a lot of Mock Drafts having us take Everette Brown from FSU....he played DE in college but can play OLB in the pros...he's listed as 6'4" 248 lbs., had 37 tackles, 13.5 sacks, 21.5 TFL, and 3 FFs as a DE last season. This mock had the 4 big OTs (Monroe, Oher, A. Smith, J. Smith) already gone. I mean, I've been all for the OT or trading down, but for arguements sake (and since the draft ain't for another 3 months), if those 4 OTs are gone and no one wants to trade up for our pick, is Everette Brown (if he has good combine/pro days) really a bad pick? Think about it, we need LB depth, and an OLB that can start. He's currently a big guy, we could have him lose a few pounds (5-10 lbs) so he'd gain some speed and start at LOLB, but if in a year or two we need a DE, we would have the option to tell him to take some weight gain n put him on the line opposite of Carter (he's only 29 and has a long term deal so he ain't goin' nowhere.) I'm watching a youtube video on Everette Brown and he don't fall for the okie-doke. he doesn't bite on the play action at all...but yea he looks a lil big to be playing a OLB in a 4-3, but looks very smart We could then Cut Washington to free up $4 million cap, then sign a OLB vet to a 2-year $4 million contract just for depth and to help out Brown... | |
