What's with the Ref. in the booth

Yeah, god forbid we woulda been short one of the three remaining first half timeouts. If it were second half I may buy that argument. Even with timeouts we killed the clock at the end of the half.

In the first half, challenge anything remotely questionable. The 2nd half is a different story. Either way I thought that replay would have been clear. Gibbs is a smart man, he'll see the film and realize what he has to do to improve. I have faith in that.

I pretty much agree with all the posts; we should have challenged the spot and would have had a first down. Failing that I really did want Coach Gibbs to go for it, but I'll accept his decision.
As for CRT3's comment about never take points off the board, we hadn't put the points on the board yet!!!! That usually refers to making a field goal and having a penalty on the play that would give you a first down. Then you usually don't take the points off the board!!!!

Guess being in Arizona you never got to listen to Frank, Sam and Sonny. Easy chip shots are what you call don't take points off the board. And Daesal do you rember the spot of the ball when he went for it on 4th down back in the day. To far for a field goal and the momentum of the game was already with the other team. So make sure you use those intanglbles to.

Remember that John Hall had just missed a FG on the previous possession. If Gibbs had decided to go for it, even that close to the end zone, many would have considered in a vote of "no confidence" in Hall. Letting him kick the FG was A) guaranteed points, and B) a reminder that he's an important weapon.

He missed from 50 but had plenty of leg. Don't think they were to worried about his confidence from 3 yards out

I just hope they pay this guy (in the booth) on results, he'd be handing over some cash today. The Brunell dive was clearly good for a 1st down, I expect an apology from the league to be at Redskins Park this afternoon.

One thing I will credit him with was not challenging the Gardner play when he dropped the 3rd down pass, and started yelling for the coaches to throw the flag, and they didn't, he did get that one right, Gardner, what an moron.

The WP article has a pretty good explanation of the reason behind not challenging it, guess it had to do with the poor angles Larry Hill had to look at in the booth, he thought it wasn't conclusive. He also mentions that you can't rely on the first down stripe on TV, says it's off by a good half yard.

Pretty interesting article actually. The Skins are the only team that employs a ref to advise on challenges and it also mentions that Gibbs was the first coach to have refs that regularly worked their practices.

Larry Hill also oversees all the Skins practices where he keeps track of all penalties called so they can track player tendencies.

Amazing how Gibbs leaves no stone unturned!!

The one thing I would say about that is this, it's the first half, and although he didn't get the right angle in time, the network's do a pretty good job at covering all the angles, it's just a matter of how long it takes for them to show it, take a shot and throw the flag, and hope you get the right angle, first half is not imperative to keep all your time out's, and even if we lose, we still have a challenge, and 2 time out's left, if it's inconclusive at first, and he doesn't get another angle to be sure? 1st half, under those type of circumstances, I throw the flag.
