Andre Smith..Would You Take Him At 13?

He would be the top player on my board when we pick at 13.

I think Buges would start a fire under his ass and he would become a very dominant player for us.

If the prospect of a 20 million dollar signing bonus cant get this guys act together till atleast the combine, I don't think Buges will be able to do anything with him after he has the money.

Excellent point. This guy is falling for a reason, major red flags when you don't show up ready for the largest interview of your life. Pass.

My gut answer is no, because I like to hit at a near 100% rate with my first round picks, and there are some red flags here, but it doesn't take much thought to realize that he's likely going to be the best prospect available when we pick if he is there.

So my answer is "not if Oher, Curry, or Raji is there".

I have to agree with GT here. First round have to be a sure thing and this guy is not stepping up when he should be.

I guess I would take a chance on him. Only because he has been so dominate up untill the combine there has'nt been any issues. But I would like to know why he was not prepared and out of shape. Definate Red Flag.

Not NO, but HELL NO! At 13 what are we looking at 10-12M guaranteed? On a guy who comes to the most important, high profile, job interview in front of the entire NFL coaches/scouts, not to mention media, out of shape and then just decides to leave and tell no one. On top of this, he was suspended from his bowl game for improper contact with an agent. Here's a quote from Smith in a USA Today article, "Smith, who also was suspended from the Sugar Bowl for improper dealings with an agent and acknowledged having weight fluctuations, said Thursday that he became a left tackle because his father told him it was the "highest-paid position."

Immature and selfish, he's not 13 yrs. old he's 21+. We can do much better at pick #13. Oher, Raji, Orakpo or trade down and let some other team shell out 8 figures to this knucklehead.

I've never heard any criticism of A. Smith's on-field performance (laziness, attitude etc). I think there's some context to be had here too... the folks on the combine probably feel pissed as hell for getting snubbed by a player, which is what this looked like to me. So when he leaves for another workout/event w/o saying much you'd probably expect folks on hand to throw him under the bus. Just my guess. Anyway to the bottom line: if we take him then i'd have to believe our guys talked w/ him about all this in some detail, maybe got Samuels to sit down w/ him and get a read on things, and then decided to pull the trigger.

I think we are dealing more with immaturity. He's a powerful kid that needs to become a man. There is no doubt he can BALL. and thats whats so inticing.

I never thought of him being here as a bonus for trade purposes, but i like the way you think.
