BIGREDSKINFAN63 09-21-2004, 03:58 AM short passes, establishing the run.those are the only ways the skins can win because they can't win with ramsey throwing long inacurate passes or pics.blitz a lot, keep the clamps on KJ and glenn.avoid dumb penalties and turnovers, get lucky.
JWsleep 09-21-2004, 12:36 PM Lots of play action bootlegs to Cooley, Rasby, etc. At least one flea flicker. Draw plays. Throw on first down.
SkinsRock 09-22-2004, 03:20 PM Not really a gameplan, but things I'd like to see them do:
Have Coles and Thrash start, with McCants as the #3 WR. Have Gardner hold a ball while sitting on the bench.
Hand the ball to Portis about 25 times, and 10 more to Betts.
Spread the ball around...get it to Cooley at least a few times.
Get Sean Taylor more involved in the D.
Blitz the hell out of Testesverde. Have Lavar pull "an Aikman" on him to let him know what it means to be a Dallas QB playing the Redskins.
Opening play prediction: Flea-flicker to Coles for a TD.

kingerock 09-22-2004, 06:13 PM I'd like to see the defense keep doing what they're doing. Playing well, pressuring the QB and keeping the other team out of the endzone.
I'd like to see the offense settle down and make good plays. It seems they are still playing the game in their head, thinking to much and not executing the small, simple things.
If we could just get consistent play out of our offense and let our playmakers make plays we could be in for a great season.
Hogskin 09-22-2004, 06:35 PM Defensively I wouldn't really change anything. The defense is doing fine and I really don't see the Cowboys offense as being one we need to really worry about.
Absolutely, Smack. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. We have the #1 defense.
On offense, I agree we NEED to be conservative. I would like to see more pitchouts to Portis. The handoffs following a crowd into the line has been meeting a crowd of defenders. I expect to see much less of that play. We need to get Portis into more open spaces to let him do his thing.

Wow - I LOVE the way you think. Couldn't have said any of it better!
Some of my keys/ideas for Monday
-Come out throwing. The first offensive play I would try to hit Coles or Gardner on something deep. Perhaps off a playaction or a flea flicker like SkinsRock suggested. Show the Cowboys right off the bat that they can't crowd the line to key on Portis. The passing game was much more vertical once Ramsey came in against the Giants, I would definitely carry that over.
-We've gotta keep Ramsey out of bad situations. 3rd and longs are just asking for trouble. Ramsey himself has to step up and play SMART. If a play isn't there throw it away or take the sack, DO NOT FORCE ANYTHING. I don't care if he has to dump the ball off to the backs or TE's all night long to keep the ball moving, I just don't want to see him heave one up for grabs.
-Coles and Gardner both need to step up and have solid games. Gardner especially needs to show more consistency. Enough with the silly drops already, get your head in the game RG!
-Portis obviously needs to have a good game, and it all starts up front. The OL needs to get nasty in this game and not only open holes but keep them open. I'd also like to see a bit more of Betts in this one especially between the tackles. The entire offense needs to come out with a chip on their collective shoulders after last week's pathetic display.
-Defensively I'm sure Williams will be bringing the heat, but he may need to pick his spots. I wonder who the flavor of the week blitzer will be, Springs just wasn't very effective in that role last week. The Cowboys have a solid WR group so the secondary could have their hands full.
-It goes without saying we need to play smarter across the board. 7 turnovers is ridiculous. We need to win the turnover battle, control the clock and keep the crowd in it all game long.

How about Taylor being the flavor of the week? The one time I saw him blitz last week, he almost got to Warner and he got there pretty quick. And we all know that Vinny has no legs, so we need to take advantage of that.
illdefined 09-23-2004, 03:19 PM our offense needs to improve in every single aspect. from snap to catch downfield. its really that deep unfortunately.
quick fix if we're still facing impenetrable 8man fronts and our QBs still can't throw or our WRs still can't catch is Cooley. he's got amazing hands apparently, and no defense has gameplanned. him exactly. even if they are those ultra annoying 6yd passes, we need to move the chains not give more futile reps to demoralize the team further.
once there is forward moving momentum everything will snowball, just need that spark. the reason initial scoring drives aren't enough spark is cuz our QBs still aren't comfortable. let em start slow but sure instead of having em swing and miss for homeruns. they gotta work up to that right now.
illdefined 09-24-2004, 08:21 AM with LaVar out, i'd play a nickel most of the game and add Harris or Lott to cover Bryant. then have Bowen or Taylor move up for run support or to blitz.
Williams is so exotic tho, who knows. i already seen Sean Springs lined up at the Dline this year...
