skinsnut 04-29-2009, 08:41 PM For you guys that think Mason sucks...did you watch the preseason...he did just fine...
He didn't do enough to bounce Rock....primarily because Rock is outstanding on special teams...Betts had proven that he can carry the #1 slot temporarily so they weren't gunna mess with him.
The reality is they would have kept him if they carried 4 RBs...if Rock played any other position....due to his "teams" play, I believe Mason would have made the final cut.
If you think about it...what undrafted FA can you say has a 50% chance of making the final cut?
You could argue that is the case with Mason this year...that could be a good thing or it could be an indictment of the talent level of our current RBs
CRedskinsRule 04-29-2009, 08:45 PM Really, I don't think anyone is saying Marcus is bad, he's just not good enough to beat out the current running backs during preseason, based on his past two years track record. It would have been great for him if he could have cracked the squad in NY and lit it up, but he hasn't so far and every team has had a shot at him at some point over the last 2 years.

Yes, I think that Mason is good with the ball in his hands. But NFL running backs have other responsibilities - notably here, blocking - and that is where my Mason fandom wanes.
CRedskinsRule 04-29-2009, 08:57 PM ^^ Exactly!
Paintrain 04-29-2009, 08:59 PM We had the triplets last preseason-Brennan, Mason and McMullen.. Why can't Zorn and Cerratto see true talent when it's right there? We would have been a playoff team if we would have started them!

Hey, don't be knockin' McMullen, my fellow Wahoo. If only he could catch, run good routes, be faster, and read defenses better, he'd be a mediocre wide receiver.
GusFrerotte 04-29-2009, 10:57 PM If Mason can only make practice squads what is the big deal? I have to go along with Celts. IF we really wanted a serious back, Johnson from Oregon would have been the big steal. Fan fav or not, the guy couldn't cut the mustard 3 times. Maybe they are going to try and trade Betts for sure then!!!!!!

and you maybe 100% correct. I simply took offense to the blanket "Mason sucks" statements.
I hope everyone is keeping in mind that he was a Rookie two yrs ago, had a lot to learn. Last yr he and the team started all over again with a new offense and even Portis was having trouble picking up the right person on blitzes. Then he went to two teams having to learn their system and play calls. Kinda tough for someone new to the league.
and I go back to you all want to give JC more time, someone who has had several yrs in the league.
and I'll agree he won't unseat Portis. Probubly not Betts, but if given time I think he could only cause his skills are similar and he's younger. As far as Rock goes, Rock is a horrible RB, but does bring a lot of leadership and is great at one job KR.
KingRaloIV 04-30-2009, 04:06 PM Letting Mason go last season was Zorns first big mistake at head coaching. He brought in S. Alexander which was also a big mistake. He could have been developing this young talented RB, instead of bringing in that soft, washed up RB from seattle. Zorn needs to get his head coaching act together, he is in charge of the whole team not just the QB's. He's not the QB coach anymore.

You make it sound like we picked up Mason in the 2nd or 3rd round of the draft. Please don't blow things out of proportion. Do you remember Mason being completely irrelevant when he played against 1st team defense during the pre-season last year? If Mason is THAT good, he'd be starting for the Ravens or Jets.
