FRPLG 09-04-2009, 09:35 AM I was watching the crappy internet feed for a while and saw big Mike W. getting absolutely toasted on a few plays. I saw a guy run by him like he was standing still. Can the coaches even justify giving a roster spot to this guy?
I think they have to based on the efforts they've put in. Plus who stays in front of him?
Lotus 09-04-2009, 09:40 AM The problem with that is, if he ends up having to play at all this season, it's going to be against starting defensive ends. How do you think he'd look against DeMarcus Ware or Osi? I think there's a good chance Washington brings in another OT after this weekends roster cuts.
I never thought I'd say this, but I miss Jon Janson.
Tony Pashos may be set free tomorrow. While he struggled a bit last year, he was a starter a couple of years ago when the Jags had that sick running game. He could perhaps provide quality depth.
As well, the hour is late for folks like Levi Jones. Jones may now drop demands to start or to get a big paycheck just so that he has a job somewhere this year.
There should be some bodies available Saturday evening. Let's see if Vinny pounces.
roth74va 09-04-2009, 09:41 AM Outside of a couple plays, I thought Henson looked really good. I do like HB, but I dont see him "taking over for" Fletcher. HB is better as a smart 2nd stringer that is able to play any LB position. Henson had several really nice tackles, although he did get his grill all busted up.
Sadly.....Williams is done. He might make the team but I dont see how this guy makes the final 53. Maybe ole' Buges is seeing something I dont, but he looks like he doesnt belong out there. Its hard for me to believe he is gonna provide any depth for the OL. For now I see us leaning on Montgomery, Rinehart, and Bridges.
PennSkinsFan 09-04-2009, 10:15 AM First and foremost, glad to see we got out of the preseason without any major injuries.
I thought Colt stepped it up in his last opportunity, but his injury gave Chase a chance to get back in the game and put together an impressive drive. I would still give the nod to Colt and put Chase on the practice squad. But it's very close, in my opinion.
Anyway, time to lay the smack down
3rd Down Conversion I'm talking about the defense allowing something like 8 of 10 3rd down conversions by the Jaguars' offense. Not good
Anthony Alridge Ridiculous speed, absolutely sick. The way he turned on a dime on that last TD drive was quite the sight to see. But, his problem all summer has been holding onto the ball and what does he do? He fumbles the ball! leading to a touchdown. That's not a good sign. Especially when there's Dorsey who is plenty fast himself and hasn't been fumbling
Marcus Mason True, the opportunities weren't necessarily there. But when they were, to me it seemed like he was playing like a guy who either knew he was cut already or knew he was on the team. Not a guy on the bubble. Nice block on the Chase scramble though (the one that was negated by Marko's penalty)
Smoot, I think the Redskins will likely rethink the 5 running back thing and go with 4 again. Aldridge has terrific speed, but you are right, the fact he can't hold on to the football kills him. Mason's problem remains the same as it always has, he can't block or play specials, which for a 4th tailback, makes no roster sense.
redsk1 09-04-2009, 10:18 AM Is it just me or does our run blocking suck a**? First team, second team and third team.
I know we are playing some good D's but even last night against Jacksonville our 1st team didn't run block well for that one series. I hope they pick it up and quick.

I think Dorsey might have the slight edge right now.

So they helped him lose weight... I don't see why that means they should be tied to him, especially for a vet min deal.
Let his ass go.
Once all the cuts hit the streets there's gotta be someone out there more qualified to be a backup OL. Williams hasn't shown anything at all.

Hold up a sec. The guy looked bad in passing situations, but lets remember this was his first game out and really looked unmovable in running situations. I'm actually a little excited about the prospects of him improving than thinking of cutting him. The sack that led to the fumble you could see that the lateral quickness wasn't there but thats something that can be improved.
Monksdown 09-04-2009, 10:34 AM No that was Aldridge...and it was impressive. Barry Sanders impressive. It showed how a speed back could help us. We need one big time.
175 lbs seriously concerns me for that position. almost prohibitively so.
skinsfan69 09-04-2009, 10:37 AM Me too.
What did everyone think of Henson last night?
He sure knows how to tackle.
