portis looked like he missed open lanes several times. He didn't trip over himself like he did v. tampa, but he ran poorly IMO. In a game where the O was often a couple yards short of a 1st, some of those poor runs hurt us. Did you see this on the tape or am I just being too critical?I agree, it was pretty obvious on a couple of plays. I gave him the benefit of the doubt on others that I couldn't tell if it was him or the OL. Overall I was happy he didn't trip himself, and on a couple of plays he make something out of nothing with good effort.
If the OL was intact I would say you're right on being critical of Portis.

Portis is toast. I can tell because he's not calling Zorn a "genius" anymore on his gig with John Thompson. Plus he's running slower than ever before. He's even slower than the OL. RIP, Westbrook.

SS33, I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on some of the top rumored QBs coming out this year

Good breakdown SS-
- Moss' corner route that was "overthrown" wasn't Campbell's fault. That was a well thrown pass, based on the separation Moss created. Pass-pro was fine. On Moss' post corner route he gives nothing more than a quick head shake, no post move at all. Very poor route.
It seemed as if Moss wanted to get a pass interference more then he wanted the TD.
That pass bounces in the endzone not very far from where Moss was standing when he stops running the route.

- Jason Campbell's limitations. While he didn't kill us this week, he fumbles again in the pocket and almost fumbled a second time. He isn't improving his ball security. Zorn is clearly protecting him with the playcalling. Out of 23 pass attempts, 13 were quick passes to 1 receiver (no reads) or screens. 3 were play-action, of the other 7, 4 were the TE delay play. Zorn isn't putting Campbell in a position to drop-back or sit in the gun, read the D and make throws based on progressions/reads.Granted the OL protection was not good overall for the day, but I'm not seeing Campbell progressing week-to-week.
Disagree with you here.
The playcalling isn't giving Campbell the chance to take the reigns of the offense.
But, i don't think its a trust issue issue i just think Zorn has lost his mojo as a playcaller.
I think that Zorn is nervous about the OL ability to pass protect.
Zorn is calling plays like we are a running team as opposed to WCO.
Pass early and often run late.
I could go into a whole thread on Zorn's playcalling but i digress.
I think Campbell's only limitations are the OL+Playcalling.
What we've seen so far is zero or minimal improvement in JC, certainly not to the point where opposing defenses view him as a threat to beat them in the passing game.
Imo JC has been playing well i think he's found his comfort on the deep ball.
He's getting the ball out at the top of his drop more then last year, and he's been more accurate, he going through his progressions and has a quicker release.
- D. Hall is soft as cotton. He could be on the cover of the damn Downy bottle.
Hall's play is so nerve racking! Hall was playing his balls off last year he was coming up with force and making 1-on-1 tackles against RBs, remember the Ravens game? He put the wood to some RBs.
Maybe DBs are like RBs empty pockets+heavy heart=production
Zorn's playcalling in key situations.....This isn't improving.
.....Just terrible.
Zorn's playcalling overall is puzzling, his playcalling tendencies are opposite to this teams strengths, opposite to the WCO and opposite to Zorn's own playcalling history. Last season Zorn passed early and often even on 1st down, used 3 and 4 wide receivers sets and used the shotgun even on 1st down.
Now, despite that our passing game is more effective then our running game the playcalling has become more run focused?
(I have a detailed look i can post that compares the last years Dallas game to this years Rams with a focus on 1st down playcalling. I can post it if anyone wants to see it, but the sum was that Zorn was pass heavy early and finished balanced now he's balanced and borderline run favored early)
Dallas: Out of the 1st 12 1st downs 10 were passes.
Rams: Of the 1st 12 1st downs 6 were runs.
What did the coaches see in practice that they didn't see on game film. I guess not what I saw. I saw Rinehart getting better and starting to develop with Heyer. These two young guys could solidify our right side for years. Are they Pro Bowl guys? Probably not, but were they consistently making mistakes, No. These two can develop into a good RG/RT tandem IMO.
I don't understand how the Skins are treating Rhinehart.
He played with 1st team during the offseason and basiclly split time with Randy during the training camp and preseason, yet when the time came Zorn was hesistant to start him then benches him 2 games later?
MW is going to struggle in space and with even average speed or finese DL players.
I hope Williams has shored up his game at RT because i thought he looked slow and stiff during the preseason.
- Get Rinehart back at RG, Heyer at RT, Batiste at LT. Provide TE, RB or protection calls to help Batiste.
I would put Heyer@LT, Williams@RG (i just think that Williams is a bit more physical and the team's apparent lack of faith in Rhinehart makes me wonder)
Batiste@RT
- Start Orakpo at RDE, Jarmon at LDE, keep the pass-rush combo of Carter, Haynesworth, Orakpo, Jarmon intact in passing downs. Activate Jackson, cut Wynn.
- Use Wilson, Blades, Carter or some combination at SLB.
Wouldn't change a whole bunch on defense.
I would rush Orakpo more often from the SAM spot and move Orakpo to DE and with Wilson at SAM.
- Use more spread sets on offense, mix up formations, better route combos. Don't protect JC with playcalls, let him sink or swim.
Yes please!
Put the game in JC hands put him in shotgun and pass early and often.
- Use Cooley and Davis to create mismatches in the run & passing game. If the D defends them with LBs, throw them the ball. If the D defends them with DBs, run down the Ds throat.
Shoot, don't use Cooley to block!
At this point i think Zorn has his hands full with what we're already doing i doubt if he can add double TE sets and actually pass from them, although i'd love it.
- get Barnes on the field in primarily run packages,
if Hall gets pissed tell, him we can go back and look at film again.
I hope Gray can somehow light a fire under Hall.
I feel like a sucker i bought into Hall's homecoming story and his desire to reach his full potential.
- Blache keep mixing up the fronts, blitz, zone blitz, disguise coverage, we've got 31 flavors, use 'em all.
100% More zone-blitz, more SAM blitz

You're getting so good at this, that I'm just going to nibble on scraps from now on. But seriously, reading this before going to the tape opens up a whole new world of things that I probably would have missed before. This is an invaluable resource.
And good comments 30gut.

Good Info Slinging Sammy 33
Well Zorn has said that they will move Heyer (LT) Williams (RT) and Rhinehart or Monty(RG). I thought Zorn or Vinny said Rhinehart had a shoulder injury that's why Williams played RG. Whats the truth on that Sammy if you know? As far as Mike Williams lets give him a shot we dont have many options at this point so Im pulling for the Big Guy.

Just a thought , what about running some no-huddle , let JC call some plays , or have the ability to change the play at the line of scrimmage < shotgun or under center > ??
Here's my summary: Samuels goes down and the entire offense crumbles.
As for Heyer, I can't believe anyone is talking about him as the future of anything. Dude is garbage. Honestly, JC is going to get killed unless Heyer gets some serious help on his side. There's no way I would trust Heyer on his own.
