hooskins 10-18-2009, 01:51 PM That's ridiculous. Dan Snyder watches one thing to monitor fans' committment to the team: the money they spend on them. An "avatar mutiny" on a fan website would actually make a difference to Dan Snyder? What planet do you live on?
Look you're either a fan or you're not. If you feel pissed off and saddened by what's going on, then it's clear you still care about the Redskins. But if you're starting to say hey you know what, I might enjoy watching the Saints play because they're fun to watch, that's headed down a bad road.
Besides, Dan Snyder wants to win football games. He sucks at it, but he wants to win. I don't think any boycotts, whether financial or avatar (pfft) will make a difference to him. We hear a lot of stuff about Zorn's status, but for all we know Snyder could be ready to drop the axe on both him and Vinny.
If this changing the avatars thing is meant as some sort of protest against Dan Snyder, then maybe I'm off-base in questioning someone's committment to the team. But I definitely don't think I'm off base in thinking they're idiots (honestly, who in their right mind thinks that's going to make a bit of difference???).
You dont think if merchandise sales go down and games start getting blacked out, Snyder might change his behavior? I think we he feels the impact in those ways, he would. Do fans actually have the composure and communication to carry out such an act? I don't think so.
SBXVII 10-18-2009, 01:52 PM Trample....get over it. We are fair weather fans. We don't have as much spirit as those who choose to "Rock the Colors or Avatars."
and now we are not idiot enough to think that even if we could bribe you all to change your avatar, that it would show up on DS's radar and he would feel compelled to fire everyone and bring in all new staff including a GM and step back and enjoy the show. I mean it's a nice thought but not going to happen. but it does allow some of us fair weather fans to feel like we are voicing our opinions or feelings perhaps even bonding with you most spirited folk. Unless you all would like to start a petition or have us all write a letter or e-mail to DS.:)
hooskins 10-18-2009, 01:55 PM I can do whatever I want as long as the mods say I'm within the rules of the board. If you don't like my Steeler's, NFL, or Reed Doughty Avatars, well too bad.
As for fair weather fan, say what you want. I've been waiting for over ten years for good weather. We've had a few breaks in the storm every once in awhile, but for the most part its been a steady stream, if not a total downpour. When you're in the rain for that long it's impossible not to get sick.
Perhaps some of you think that I want the Skins to lose. Nothing can be farther from the truth. I want the Skins to win every effing game by big margins, but I'll take a win.
This is the only way I can show my anger towards the ownership of this team, besides not buying merchandise. Snyder is lucky to have people like us who still give a shit. I know of a lot of people who went to the Steelers and the Ravens. Most of the people I know, who wouldn't switch, don't even bother to watch anymore.
So you feel the Redskins logo only represents this season and the current ownership.
It doesn't. By switching your logo you are lumping your displeasure this season with all the Skins have done in the past IMO.

Yeah that's pretty laughable

I totally agree...and precisely why I haven't bought anything from Snyder in over a year and don't plan on it until he 1) completely turns the team over to a legit GM 2) no longer owns the team.
...that said I don't think there's anything wrong w/ fans expressing their utter disgust of the appalling mismanagement of the franchise in other ways as well. The billboard idea is pretty smooth. I think the best thing to do though is an organized effort where fans (those willing to throw their money away) take signs to the home games calling out the clowns in the FO to stop the insanity.
Trample the Elderly 10-18-2009, 06:37 PM In the end does it really matter? I liked watching NO beat up on the Giants. It can be done!

That would register, for sure. Which is why I attacked the notion that an avatar mutiny would have any effect, and noted that the only thing Snyder monitors regarding the fans is the money they spend.
But ultimately no, I don't think there's any changing the man's behavior. He's going to continue to do what he thinks will put the team in the best position to win games. The problem is, he thinks that if he has a hand in football decisions, he's doing what's in the best interests of the team.
We have an owner who wants to win really badly and will do whatever he must to win. Problem is he has no idea how to identify people capable of building an NFL roster.

Agreed on all points. I am a true fan through the good and the bad...both the Spurrier and Zorn experiments as well as the Gibbs glory years. I could not show support for another team, whether jokingly or seriously.
Besides, we're not even Snyder's "favored" web site...he doesn't even care if we're here or not, let alone monitor our avatars. :D
It's is sad to see how people can give up on their team so easily. Yes, this is the low point of the Redskins in most of our lives, but I'm sticking with them.
Don't forget, the Skins had a playoff drought from 1946 to 1970, including back-to-back 1-win seasons in the early 60s. We're nowhere near that bad right now.
Finslady 10-19-2009, 02:22 PM I'm gonna pull a Fred Smoot...... POINT BLANK: Do away with those FCKED UP OTHER TEAM avatars. This does happen to be a REDSKIN FAN forum!
They shouldn't be on a REDSKINS OFFICIAL OR UNOFFICIAL Team fan forum to begin with! Something I have never understood why the path let this happen!
Lets have a VOTE MODS.
Wow dude. Just wow. I'm a Dolphins fan. I've been a Dolphins fan for the better part of 25 years. I'm also an NFL fan. I watch other games when my team isn't on. I follow the AFC East very closely because my team is in that division. I was turned on to this board something like 6 years ago by my boyfriend (a Redskins fan). I follow the Redskins (and by follow I mean watch/have an interest in) because my boyfriend is a fan. I liked this board because I found the discussions interesting. I liked this board because it was the first to post news about other teams (ie: the Ricky Williams debacle and Pennington going on IR). I liked this board because I saw the acceptance of a Dallas fan (I can't remember his name but I think SmootSmack or Matty might know who I'm referring to) who was respectful and capable of promoting discussion.
Did it ever occur to you that fans of other teams are capable of having NFL discussions regarding the Redskins?
When I first signed up for this board, I felt I received a warm welcome. There were questions of course as to why a Dolphins fan would come to a Redskins forum and I did my best to answer them.
Is the GTFO mentality of the above post what this forum has become? If that is truly the feeling of the members of the Warpath, then I am saddened by the degeneration of what I found to be an interesting site. I guess I'll have one less thing in my favorites.
I do wish you guys the best of luck. I do hope this franchise can turn things around. Most of all, I do know what it's like to feel the frustration of the downslide of a once proud franchise.
