Can't fault the man for taking advantage of an opportunity. Good for him, and I hope he meets with success in Memphis. Go for it. His departure means an opportunity for someone else here.

Secondary. Personally I think secondary coaches tend to be great DC/HC candidates. There's a lot of scheming and packaging in the secondary so these guys are typically real smart. Tomlin was secondary coach first...I bet a lot more solid HCs out there were secondary guys early on too.

Well Jim Zorn was supposedly real smart too when he was hired as head coach

Wasn't Harbaugh special teams coach? Was he secondary coach as well?

Secondary, special teams.. They both begin with an "S." That's what I get for posting at 2am. Kinda like the way I gushed over the Russ Grimm post in the coach thread. GMScud posting at 2am = fail.

If the staff is going get the overhaul it needs (except possibly Blache), then good for him securing a job ahead of time, especially a HC job. I'll root for him to succeed.

What are we getting so upset about here?

I don't know. I don't see NFL DC when I think of him. The college ranks will be good for him. If he does well for a few years then maybe he will get a chance.

Man I was hoping that he could take over the defense next year. I have posted this numerous times that the reason why the defense is so successful, because the defense we run is Williams defense with a few Blache wrinkles. The structure stability on defense allows them to add players and lose players and continues to be a top ten defense. I wish we could keep the defense the way they are next year.

Jerry Gray is one of THE class acts in the NFL. I doubt you could round up a dozen people who have a bad word to say about him. Forget his coaching abilities - - which are very good; the Redskins are losing a man of character and grace. It is sort of like when Darrell Green left the team.

He is taking over a woeful Memphis team - - probably could not crack the Top 100 in college football this year if such a ranking existed. I hope the alums and the administration at Memphis give him a few years to work a turnaround there. He has LOADS of work to do.

Good luck, Coach...

Well the way we hire and fire coaches Jerry Gray could end up back here in 2-3 years as our Head Coach.
