I have a DELL Inspiron 1525 about 2 months old with vista basic OS. For some reason on my desktop a white square appears after the laptop has been on for a few minutes and it will notgo away, I can not get it off of the desk top. It seems to me that it is above the desktop if you will, if I highlight with the curser the blue goes behind the white square.
Please someone help me get rid of this.......

Try going to the Display settings in the Control Panel ---> Desktop tab-->Customize Desktop-->Web tab-->uncheck "My current home page" AND "lock desktop items".

Could it be due to a start up program that runs upon computer start up that hangs. I would try disabling startup applications (http://www.vista4beginners.com/System-Configuration-Utility) first. BTW, if you just bough the computer in the last two months aren't you eligible for a free Windows 7 upgrade coupon? I would get my coupon and dump Vista ASAP.

Yeah, checkout Dell's windows 7 upgrade site (https://win7.dell.com/) (read the FAQ section, the program ends Dec 31, 2009 (https://win7.dell.com/Eligibility.aspx)).

If you have Vista Home Basic, I don't think you are eligible for the upgrade...if that's the case, buy the Windows 7 Upgrade (Home Premium or better) anyways. It's a much better experience than Vista.
