The Cowboys are now with us in the cellar of the East at 2-4, hardly a strong follow up to a 10-6 playoff run from a year ago. When you look at the questionable moves they made in the offseason especially at the RB and QB positions, it seems this could be a legit question to ask. After all, Gibbs is being put to task on this each week, so why not Parcells?
How do you have glaring needs at QB and RB and just don't address them properly enough? He had a chance to pick someone like Stephen Jackson in the draft and passed and ended up with Jones who wasn't very impressive before his injury anyway. They had their pick of the free agent QB market and they end up with 41 year old Vinny.
Parcells loves to run the ball and play tough D, right now they can't do either. I think it's safe to say this will be the first time in Parcell's career that his team doesn't improve on their W-L record in his 2nd season.
So what's the deal with the tuna? I don't question his coaching ability, but you have to really question the personnel decisions they made this offseason. Right now this looks like a .500 team at best, and it's coming down to a lack of talent for them, and who's shoulders does that fall on? Who's cooking the dinner down in Big D? Smells like tuna to me!
Bozzy 10-25-2004, 09:34 AM Yeah, if somebody is gonna question about Gibbs, they oughta look at Parcells too.
EEich 10-25-2004, 10:49 AM I think Parcells made some bad personnel decisions at skill positions because of his inflexible attitude.
He had a better running game with Hambrick last year, but he would have been better if Julius Jones hadn't gotten hurt.
He had a better passing game last year but couldn't get along with QC.
SUNRA 10-25-2004, 10:59 AM I'm glad to see Parcells's arrogance finally paying off. He wanted Testerverde and he got him. All 41 years of him. It's clear that the problem with Parcells is Parcells. He and Bobby Knight think that these younger players are intimidated by their drill sargent approach. Parcells threw something at Antonio Bryant and Bryant was about to light his ass up in practice and it serves him right. Quincy Carter isn't good enough with a 10-6 record. But Testerverde is a better QB because he's non-threatening. These are grown men with wives and children and he thinks they are going to take his insults in a positive way. These guys are not Phil Simms. They will lay the beatdown. How bout them Cowboys.

To be accurate, we did lose the head to head matchup with them, which puts us in last place in the NFC east.
In some ways, criticisms of Tuna should be harsher than those of Gibbs simply because Tuna's been coaching regularly in the league, unlike Gibbs, who's returning from a long hiatus. It appeared right on draft day that Tuna was being cocky about the boys' chances of making the playoffs this year, when he passed on 2 good RBs that he could've drafted. However, they'll have a monster year next year - 2 ist rounders, and rumour has it that Tomlinson is interested in playing for Dallas when his contract with the chargers is up.
What's scary for us is how the packers rolled over them yesterday. Mike Zimmer used half-assed attempts at blitzing Favre, and he made them pay for it. I have no doubt that Greg Williams will do a better job of containing the Packers scoring, but even 21 points may be too much for our offense to overcome. We can only hope and pray that Favre has an off day - a 4 INT performance, which he's been doing a lot of lately. This will be the first real test for our secondary.
SUNRA 10-25-2004, 12:03 PM At this point of the game, it doesn't matter what Favre trys to do, I know the defense will disrupt his attempts like know other team this year. Remember Lavar and Barrow are back. Our defense is the key to keeping the Packers out of this game. If the 15th ranked Giants can keep Green Bay to 7 points then that's the motivation we need and Ahman Green will be a non-factor with Lavar down his throat and Pierce up his a@#.
d151b 10-25-2004, 12:30 PM they're absolutely RIPPING parcells on the local radio stations here. how soon they forget, he turned a bunch of losers into a 10-6 team last year. but, that still doesn't excuse passing up a feature back (stephen jackson) in the draft.
Sheriff Gonna Getcha 10-25-2004, 12:41 PM I hope the Cowboys do well this year because they've already got a high first rounder (via the Bills pick), they don't need two. They'll probably get the best cornerback in the draft, I don't want them getting the best QB/RB in the draft too.
offiss 10-25-2004, 12:58 PM Parcell's is a realist, don't think for one second he new he wasen't going to be that good this year, his thought IMO, was they would be lucky to get close to the playoff's this year, Vinny was brought in as a stop gap until Henson is ready to step in, Julius Jones will be a very good back for Parcell's, remember he's making Richie Anderson look good right now, they are sitting in a real good postion in next year's draft, unlike Gibb's, right now Parcell's lack's talent, remember regardless of how bad we think the guy was, Carter was his starter, and he lost him right before the sesaon started, watch what he does in this upcoming draft, he will restock the boy's with talent, and he has the picks to do it.
bedlamVR 10-25-2004, 02:29 PM Thing is he has to make those picks count and there is no garuntee Henson is the real deal, he showed some promise three years ago and in TC but he is already a ways down that rookie road and time may run out on him before he really has time to show what he can do .
The big plan was for 2005 according to Parcells but there is many a twist and turn to come before plan becomes a success and Parcells is more likley to walk than not if it looks like he is up a certian creak without a paddle...
