Completely shocked when I heard yesterday. Really sad. Life is so fleeting. He will be missed I am sure, and he was just a kid. R.I.P. Gaines. Take care. Maybe god saw something in the kid and needed a DE.

Thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Death and the NFL are becoming to friendly in the last couple of years.

I met Gaines Adams a couple of times when he was with the Bucs. He was a nice kid and a bright kid. He was the antithesis of a thug.

RIP.

Prayers to his family.

The Gaines Adams post-mortem highlight film from this year featured a single shoestring tackle he made vs. Ryan Grant with Chicago, and like three separate passes knocked down against us vs. Heyer and Rabach on a stunt from the TB game.

You know, back when our line was faultless enough to get it's ass kicked by Detroit and Tampa Bay. And everything was Campbell's fault.

Here's an amazing video of a soccer player in Europe. This guy obviously had a defibrillator. He went into a lethal heart rhythm (probably like Gaines Adams), and passes out -- but the defibrillator shocked this guy (see his body shake) - and he lived.

YouTube - Football player has heart attack but survives! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PwpSFDbCZY)

Atheletes are very carefully screened by doctors before playing sports.. Again, Gaines must've slipped through the cracks..

I wonder why people with enlarged hearts are more succeptible to heart attacks? Any Dr's in here that could provide some info on that? I'm just curious.

Awful to hear him go, what a player that never achieved his true talent level b/c of an early death, much like Sean Taylor, at least his was not the result of a murder, but it is still an absolute tragedy for anybody to die so young.

It's usually an issue with blood flow in which it can't provide enough blood to the organs. The heart expands/dilates and the excess bulging lowers the pressure, I think that it's called dilated cardiomyopathy or something similar, somebody that I went to school with had it, track team member. It can lead to all sorts of issues like murmurs, clotting, etc as well.

No, it's all just because of scar tissue that forms. Then the heart electric system short circuits, the heart beat goes really fast, and people pass out - and possibly die.

Again, it was NOT a heart attack. Two different things completely.
- heart attack = CLOT of heart vessel (older people)
- lethal heart rhythm = fast heart beat (anyone with dilated heart/etc)
