TheMalcolmConnection 01-21-2010, 09:56 AM What is everyone bashing Rocky for? He came back this year after his first year back from knee surgery and was second only to London. How is that bad or mediocre? Sure, we are lacking a good amount of depth, but how many teams can say that when an LB goes down they have someone to back them up?
I wouldn't be opposed to taking an LB in the draft or signing a decent deal in FA, but we have so many more holes to fill and this is a group that's average to above average if anything.

Who's bashing Rocky?
Where do you think Rocky would/could fit in a 3-4 scheme? As an OLB or ILB?

Yeah who knows. The guy is a pretty solid LB.

Ive noticed this before on the board, I dont understand it either. People believe somehow we need/can to get stars at every position. Rocky has been solid since he has been here and needs to be extended IMO.
BigHairedAristocrat 01-21-2010, 10:20 AM LB isnt a dire need, but i'd say its more of a need if we stick with a 4-3. Picking up Dansby would allow us to move Orakpo to DE full-time and dramatically improve our front 7. It would also allow Blades to focus on developing at MLB to eventually replace Fletcher.
In any case, if there's no salary cap, and we're not giving up draft picks, then there's no reason not to upgrade every position, including those that are already "strengths." Honestly, Pass-catching TE and Strong Safety are the only positions on our roster where I feel there's no reason to even consider upgrading.
over the mountain 01-21-2010, 11:15 AM dansby is good but not elite. i think he will want elite type money. not suggs money but something more than i would like to see us give to a guy who doesnt really impact the game or make big plays.
we could sign dhani jones and get similar production imo for alot less money.

dansby will probably get more money than he's worth, but so what? capless year.
besides, jones is old as crap. atleast with dansby, we could count on him performing at a high level for the next 5-6 years.
skinsfan69 01-21-2010, 01:08 PM that road has only hurt us because of the salary cap - overspending in free agency in one year meant disaster 3-4 years down the road. The only thing the team needs to avoid is TRADING TOO MANY DRAFT PICKS for veteran players. That is something that will screw a team over whether there's a cap or not.
I just don't see a big upside with this guy. He's not a big sack guy and he just came off a defense that got trashed in the playoffs. No thanks. I'd like to see what Wilson can do in a 3-4. It did wonders for Elvis Dumerville so I'd rather go that route.

no cap in 2010 doesnt mean there is not going to be a cap in 2011.
plus, im under the impression that you cant structure contracts front loaded in the uncapped year. i.e. give dansby 12 mil in 2010 then have his salary drop to 2 mil for the remaining years. pretty much, to my understanding, there are clauses and conditions in place to restrict teams from totally taking advantage of the uncapped year and knocking the competitve balance and pay scales off kilt.
if dhani is "old as crap" then im old as crap too since we are the same age and grew up together. besides if dhani comes to the skins, OTM is going to some games for free!!

the road has hurt us cause we pick the wrong guys that only want to come here to get paid. yeah we've hit on some but since this team has so many needs it just doesn't make sense to go out and spend big money on a player like dansby. i'd go out and try and see if new england has any intentions of paying logan mankins.
