GusFrerotte 02-23-2010, 11:43 PM Calling Barnes a disappointment is a bit premature. I am not even sure this year is "critical". Sure, he should show progress, but come on - he was an f'ing rookie last year. Can we take some time to develop players before we toss them to the curb?
I agree. We were spoiled with Champ and Smoot, but both guys were first rounders. Just wish Rogers could make some game changing picks more often. Wish Smooty could get back into his old form too. I yearn for the "good ole days" when we had Green, Dishman, Richards, and Jesse Campbell. Yeah the safeties weren't the best, but they could pick some off occasionally.

Actually Smoot was a second rounder that was playing like a first rounder.

Huh I thought Smoot was a late 1st rounder...like 27th overall or something

Nah, 45th overall. Come on, member? You member. But seriously he was part of Marty's draft class with Rod 50/50 going in the first. Sage Rosenfels, and Darnarian McCants were also in that class. To add insult to injury in the firing of good old Marty, Antonio Pierce was brought in that year as an undrafted free agent. Guy clearly knew what he was doing talent wise.

Good history lesson sir...
Chief X_Phackter 02-24-2010, 01:26 AM we have obvious and more pressing needs at other positions. los has not played great, just doing his job the best he can. tender him for now.
with a new staff (haslett specifically) talking about making changes that should lead to more turnovers, maybe los makes an impact. i am not holding my breath, but hopeful.
Yeah, but turnovers usually involves actually catching the ball if you're a DB...
Paintrain 02-24-2010, 09:28 AM if he's starting 64 and not in the top 40 then I'd love to hear your analysis on the ones in the bottom 24
not that you could name them
You're right, I couldn't name them I'm sure but my analysis is they are serviceable CB but lack a certain characteristic (hands, elite speed, loose hips) of elite-outstanding CB, teams will tend to throw to their side more than the other and they are beaten for TD more frequently than their opposite CB. I think we can all agree that Rogers fits comfortably into that criteria.
Look, it's not an insult to call someone a bonafide starter in the NFL, it's just that I consider Rogers on the middle-lower end of starting CB in the league.
SBXVII 02-24-2010, 11:34 AM He's a solid CB, but there's always been something going on between he & the staff. We saw this in 06 & in the past 2 years especially. Will a coaching change truly make a difference? I don't know. For now I'll agree w/Matty that he's certainly worth tendering.
I totally agree. There was something he had problems with under G.Williams, now its the staff under Zorn. Some people get all bent out of shape about what they are asked to do and whether they feel they should do it or not. Others are Roll players. We need Roll players. People who will do their job and not complain. I know for the most part Rogers has been a Roll player and perhaps I'm completely wrong about Rogers and when he would get beat but I felt he was a better Man-to-Man cover corner vs. a Zone cover corner. I seemed to think he got beat a lot when he was in a zone scheme. Like he was lost as to who to cover and for how long. Yet he writes he didn't do well in a man-to-man scheme?
He's a good corner. Not sure how many people we can Tendure but I'm in this crowd. I think he values himself more then what he's actually worth though.

Plus I think he got majorly coached up by Green. If I recall Smoot had a rough first year then worked all summer with Green and came out gang busters after that.
We should have asked Green if he wanted to be a coach for the Skins.

I think that we tried but then Green sent the Skins a bill every time that he had to sign a paper ;)
