I am trying not to come across as too much of a dick but isn't this thread just a tad bit of an overreaction?
We cut 10 guys out of the gate which doesn't seem like a "gunshy" move. We have had at least 6 guys in and signed one. We have also signed several of our own.
Sometimes it's good to be gun shy. Pull the trigger and the outcome can change a lot of things for a long time.

It was like an abusive relationship. Now that he's gone people miss the abuse.

Thread needs to be retitled to something like "Thoughts on the new front office strategy." Asking if the front office is gun shy is to much of a leading question and something I'd expect from another Redskin fan site.
Mass amounts of Redskins fans are having to kick their "Vinny Crack" addictions this year of 2010 free agency.
People don't realize that Vinny was basically, well....us, for lack of a better word. If you took your traditional Madden franchise owner and gave him a GM job, he'd be Vinny. Trading away draft picks, throwing money at players, ignoring the O-Line because the speed of your running back is 100 times more important, etc.
And keep in mind this so called frugality might be short lived Apparently (God I can't believe I'm about to say this) next years (ow) free agent class (owwww) is going to be better (*bang*).
Still it's a smart strategy. Last I heard we might be as much as $29 million under what would have been the 2010 salary cap. I also heard someone else point out that we're not paying outsiders more then the guys already on our team that did their jobs, rather then paying them more because they happened to hit free agency at the right time. I admit if they acted like this all the time it might get annoying, especially without the wins to back it up, but for now it's a breath of fresh air.

Im blown away by the criticism of the FO already. Im floored.
We just broke up the tandem of Vinny and Danny Boy that drove the Skins to a rock bottom with their general plan of F the draft, lets try and buy a championship and installed class act and well respected GM Bruce Allen and a coach who has won 2 superbowls. And in the first week of free agency their going to be called gun shy b/c we havent done the typical overpay for shitty play on the field. The funny thing is less than a handful of team have made any type of "splash" in free agency, so we are acting as normal, think before you act, have a plan, franchise. We should be sooooo excited about this.

Gun shy?
Allen and Shanahan have both been around the block a few times, pretty sure they know what they are doing.
People have become so accustomed this time of year to the Redskins signing FA's, it's something they seemingly can't get over. The team will be rebuilt in increments not in the first few days of free agency. It's so good to witness the approach now being taken.

Just ask Plaxico.
Thoughtful choices and discretion are a good thing for DS to be seeing. I especially hope that he will learn from this experience how to keep this franchise solid for the next 40 years, not just under MS/BA.

If there were anybody at a position of need available that didn't get wildly over paid I'd be concerned but that isn't the case. I love the fact that this front office has decided not to sign FA's just for the sake of making a splash or to appease a ridiculously impatient owner or fan-base.

I'm with you Pocket. People are totally overreacting and want the Redskins to sign every two-bit free agent available. I like this approach and the reality is we're not going to address every need in this free agency period or this draft. It just isn't going to happen.
This front office is taking a very measured, systematic, and (emotionally) detached approach to building the roster. If Jason Campbell steps up his game just a little and we add one good offensive lineman, I think the pieces are in place for a serious playoff run. You have to figure the difference in coaching alone will net us at least 3 games.
Breathe guys, breathe...
Good post 12thMan...I'm in total agreement with your assessment relevant to the difference this coachng staff will make. When I look back at how competitive we were in most games last year save for a few bad breaks here and there, we could easily have been at least an 8-8 team.
It's just encouraging to see a FO structure with a plan as opposed to a fix. The time has come when all the (good fit's) as we love to refer to them as, will have to fit someplace else. Vinny is gone, hopefully to never return.
