Bailey's deal:
"Bailey's agent, Jack Reale, said Tuesday night that the deal is for $63 million over seven years. The deal includes $23 million in combined signing bonus, guaranteed money and roster bonuses."
- IMO this is WAY too much.
I think something in Springs' neighbourhood would be fairer.
Springs' deal:
6 years, $30M, $13M in combined signing and roster bonuses.
Bailey's deal is crazy and I hope we don't see something like that on our books. We already have Samuels and Arrington.
Yeah I don't think Smoot is really worthy of top money like that, a deal like Springs' sounds much more reasonable.

Smoot is worth whatever the highest price can be paid. There are few players on this team that deserve and earn their pay. Smoot is a real Redskin. 5 ints his first and second year and 4 ints in his third year tells us why Bailey is out of here. He is the player I call on the most while the defense is at work.
i love smoot, i hope he is a redskin for life.
with that said, i dont think that he is a top tier cornerback. he is very close but not there yet.
the previous years of his career, he had to cover teams #2 WR while champ took the top WR. i would love to see him matchup with Moss/harrison/owens/other playmakers. till then, he isnt worth champ money. although, because of age, i think he should get paid more than springs. plus, he is Mr. Redskin.

I think that the deal that comes across will be both fair for Smoot and fair for the team. Now, that number might be kind of large, but it certainly wouldn't be the largest offer that he would have received going into free agency.
Smoot possesses all of the kinds of things a coach could want: a love for the game, toughness, dedication, spirit, intelligence, and just an overall good attitude. I think these intangibles are worth more than most of the physical skills any player can bring to the table.
So, in conclusion, I'm glad he'll be coming back (it's obvious that's the only thing he wants) because I think he's a great player and a great guy (I've even met him a few times).

Great News, But I sure hope we can sign him. I like to compare him to D. Green as being a true Redskin with a big hart and passion for his team. His skills are not of a D.Green but could be as time goes by. Haveing Gibbs as our coach I would Think helps the Redskins chances of keeping smoot

Well i don't think he is a shutdown corner as much as a big play corner. I would rather have a shutdown corner but big play ability is next on the list. I'd say he is top 10 CB in the league but not on the coberage level of Bailey. It is REALLY hard to get quality CBs in this league and losing our top two in two seasons probably strikes the front office as looking awfully stupid so I think they'll do what it takes to get the job done. It's not like they can count on there being another Springs out there to replace Smoot if they lose him. He'll get good money but I bet not Champ money. I don't think he has the respect of the league like that.
We couldn't keep both Bailey and Smoot, so when the decision was made to trade Bailey, I think the decision was also made to push hard to keep Smoot.
I wasn't a big fan of Smoot early on, but last year the guy won me over by playing hurt and playing well while hurt. He's doing the same thing this year too. It's hard to not just love the guy.

I think Smoot should get slightly more than Springs, but not Bailey money.
