tryfuhl 04-03-2010, 01:03 AM I wasn't aware Willie played Tackle. What? He doesn't. Since we don't currently have more than maybe 1/2 of a starting NFL tackle on our team I will withhold judgment. But I guess this does give us a pretty good indication of what they think of CP.
Yeah my first concern was that Willie can't play tackle. I mean since we signed him we basically can't do anything at O-Line from here on out. I guess that they have a plan.
The Goat 04-03-2010, 01:26 AM The brilliance of this signing can only be understood within the context of our limited draft choices. Shanny/Allen have just five picks unless we acquire more and they're somewhat conspicuously signing FA's such that the only position we absolutely must upgrade is OT. I see us taking two OTs in the draft...everything else is pretty much up in the air.
CultBrennan59 04-03-2010, 01:28 AM I don't think we'll draft a RB. If we do it'll be one with Return abilities, because thats a big need for us.
GMScud 04-03-2010, 02:07 AM I think if we can get each of these three RBs to embrace a limited role spread around in thirds, then we could have a pretty solid run-by-committee backfield. It's obviously very temporary given their age, but Allen/Shanny know we have other big needs in the draft on both sides of the ball and only 5 picks to address them. We could probably get away with not drafting a back this year. I don't love the idea, but Shanny's offenses have had monster rushing years with lesser backfields than we have as of today.
Certainly it would be fun to draft a guy like CJ Spiller or Ryan Matthews, but would that help us more than a top flight lineman, QB, or LB? For this upcoming season, I'm not so sure.

Byner
Riggs
Ervins
All three were great but they had a great O Line

It's is probably a safe bet that they don't draft a RB this year.
I still want McCluster, though.
Lotus 04-03-2010, 09:45 AM just my opinion but i think alridge still has the most upside out of any of the backs we have on our roster, i have a feeling he will have a break out year this year and be our feature back for the next few years
I think Alridge has upside because of his Shanny-treasured speed as well as the fact that, of our current backs, he alone plays special teams. I hope Alridge is working on that fumble-itis.
Beneil (diehard since 87) 04-03-2010, 09:56 AM Willie is the best back-up ever! (ha ha ha!)
Ok, here are the stats, Portis is better in the following categories: Yards per carry, yards per game, double digit TD seasons, over 1,200 yard seasons, 20+ yard carries, 40+ yard carries, 3 times as many receiving yards, and a WAY higher passer rating (lol).
Both have 2 pro-bowls, but CPs last one is more recent.
People are silly. They think of "Fast Willie" and grin, talking about how he should take CP's place when Portis is better in every statistical category that matters. Think about it. Willie's best season was 1,494 yards in 2006. Portis had 1,487 in 2008 with a crappy o-line. He's also got 3 seasons in the 1,500s... so to me there is no comparison. AND HE'S A YEAR YOUNGER THAN WILLIE!?!?!?

Who said anything about WP taking CPs place? This is a head scratcher signing for me, but I didn't see anyone saying what you are accusing "people" of saying. Take the CP tinted glasses off bro, I think this move will make him better.

Don't ya love those out of left field posts that make you say... huh?
