Totally agree, FD. Never understood the tweeting/facebook status updates several times a day. Who the hell cares if you're walking your dog, and why do you need to broadcast it online while/just before doing it? Popularity complex to the fullest, IMO.
In any case, this doesn't look good for twitter. I certainly don't want anything I post on the internet to be cataloged forever, but I guess it's too late.
I think this fits right inline with what the Library of Congress (or any library really) is intended to do: catalog information and/or document history. It is really a sign of the times, when it is possible to catalog so much data with relatively little effort.
