say do football players collect unemployment if fired?

They're not fired, they're laid-off. Unemployment policy varies from state to state. I would think they are entitled to the benefit if the money isn't still trickling in after having been released. If the Skins still owe you 1 million and they're going to pay you half now and half next year I don't think you qualify...in any case I'm not sure the check they'll get from the state will help pay 1% of their bills.

I was under the impression that guaranteed money was paid up front as a lump sum, and only divided into yearly increments for salary cap accounting purposes. Not 100 percent on that though.

Signing bonuses yes, but the way all the commentators spoke it sounded like he was being paid 3mill this year regardless. I don't really know either though.

It all depends on what the player's contract says...if it doesn't say "all money owed must be payed in full upon termination of contract" it certainly will be and won't trickle in.

Urban Meyer made my 2009 annual salary in .95 Tebow TD's. LOL. For every Gator win, he earns almost quadruple my current annual take. That's some perspective for ya. Sheesh.

Joe Mauer makes almost twice my annual salary.... per game. OMG.

I need to work 140+ years to make Jamarcus Russell's annual salary. That makes me feel like a fail. :)

There are 82 games in the NBA regular season, 48 minutes in each game (not factoring in OT/playoffs). By those numbers, Pau Gasol makes $4,827.24 per minute of game time, regardless of being on the bench or on the court. That's just nuts.

You could do breakdowns like this all day. There 162 games in the baseball regular season, 9 innings in each game (not factoring in extra innings/playoffs), 3 outs per half inning (while Mauer is behind the plate). That means Mauer gets $5,258.34 for every defensive out the Twins get.

It goes on and on. Staggering how well these dudes are paid.

you don't even want to know what mine is.. somewhere about 4 to 5x what yours will take

bust my ass all day every day, not going to pretend that my job is even halfway glamorous though, it's also not that hard, but I do have to work for it.. just waiting to have the money to go back to school, never saw myself in this position at this age

If you want to feel just fantastic about yourself, think of this. Mo Vaughn made over $13 million in 2001...and combined every member of this board played as many MLB games as Vaughn did that year
