Interesting

Looks like their plan is to trade back in 2011 with their first and second round picks. Of course trading for a pro bowl tackle and QB in the same offseason is easily worth loosing a 3rd and 4th round pick. Easily a far cry from the days where we would spend those picks on the likes of Brandon Lloyd and TJ Ducket.Source: Washington Redskins agree to deal for Jammal Brown of New Orleans Saints - ESPN (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5306133)

Yeah, McNabb and Brown is a much improved haul from the days where we used to get one year rentals on bad players for the same price.

Maybe by next regime, we'll start getting picks for our players!

Third and Fourth round picks for pro-bowl quality players with a 3-5 year career still ahead of them? Nice.

Do we dare dream that we get 5 years and 3 pro bowls (and a couple SB's) out of each of these guys???

I don't think he will get owned Tripp. Brown has been a dominant player before his injury, and I believe even with the injury he is instantly head and shoulders above what we currently have at Tackle. I can personally vouch for him being in shape, I have seen him at the gym every week day this summer. Brown has always had his struggles against the pass, though those appeared to go away when he got paired up with a healthy Brees. McNabb isn't quite the lightning quick trigger man that Brees is (nor is he as clueless in the pocket as Aaron Brooks was), so a lot of his pass protection issues are going to resurface this year.

However, with a move over to the right side, he's not going to be facing the other team's top pass rusher 30 times a game. And he fixes the major weakness in our line, which was that the RT position could have previously been exploited between 5-7 times per game at the choosing of the defensive coaches.

Brown doesn't give us a pair of bookends at tackle that we can rely on for the next 6 to 8 years, but he'll be more than competent in the role we have for him. I generally give players the benefit of the doubt when it comes to conditioning, but it's certainly good information that he's definately in playing shape and will be a contributor from the first day of training camp.

Now we send AH to seattle for their 2011 3rd and 4th.

Going into last year Scout's Inc considered Brown to be the 5th best tackle in the league:
2009 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc.
Grade: 82 | Key

Comment: Brown has been New Orleans' starting left tackle since being drafted in the first round of the 2005 draft. He is a good-sized tackle with excellent balance, body control and athleticism. He does a good job of keeping his pad level down and blocking with leverage. He can kick step out to pick up the speed rusher off the edge and still react and adjust to react to counter moves. He could do a better job of finishing his drive blocks off as he tends to let opponents recover and work their way back into the play. While Brown might not be an elite left tackle he certainly provides a quality starter that can hold down the left side.

Wouldn't have guessed though that he was considered a top 5 tackle based on that draft report. Just for Comparisons sake Chris Samuels was rated a 79.

lol could any title mean less...let's chill with the comparisons for a minute, Brown isn't even on the time and Trent Williams is a green rookie. I don't think we are even in the conversation of having an OL in the top half of the league yet.

I find your lack of faith disturbing. However while we're at it I forgot possibly the best pair on that list. Roos and Stewart from Tenneesee. You don't get a 2,000 yard rusher with nothing but a shifty running back. Right now I'd say that it's between Miami and Tenneesee for the best pair of bookends.

Also as a disclaimer I forgot to say that we could have the best pair in a year or two, not this year though we will be among the best when it comes to bookends, just not the top pair. Jacksonville has a pretty amazing duo on the rise in Monroe and Britton and San Fran is not far behind with Staley and Davis. In the end though I think Williams is going to develop a lot faster then people think. He might not have a Joe Thomas or Jake Long type rookie season but he's still going to be very good in 2010.

"Brown has always had struggles against the pass"??? do you mean in pass protection? He's a huge upgrade over Heyer/Williams at any rate so a massive improvement should be the least we can expect.

Lets hope that our three-headed RB / rushing attack gets going right out of the gate , that will go along way towards our success .

I think if he returns to his old form, we got a heck of a deal.
