skinsnut 08-23-2010, 03:19 PM From what I have read, this Tyrone Carter was 3rd behind Troy Polamalu and Ryan Clarke and often started in their places.
The Steelers did not resign him since their secondary was vanilla last yr when Polamalu was injured. Carter was essentially replaced by Will Allen (ex giant).
What is weird is that Carter was essentially a "strong safety" with the Steelers and we need a solid cover guy since Moore is injured.
Dirtbag59 08-23-2010, 03:20 PM What the hell? Why does Carey Davis have to share a thread. This is an outrage.
skinsnut 08-23-2010, 03:26 PM I thought I was the only one who felt that way about Sellers. I need to see as much passion for his blocking as I do his love for the camera.
I agree with Matty, LJ was the victum of what I wouldn't exactly call blocking.
I think Sellers has not played the same since Gibbs left town.
Gibbs maximized his talent and valued talk of mauling defenders.
This didn't happen the last 2 years with Zorn...Portis even called him out on it...which was a huge mistake. Sellers is an emotional guy and I think he may have been really offended at that point...he certainly hasn't shown much since. He better get his act together because a couple of those younger guys are itching to take his job....and this scheme is not one that demands a running back bowling ball. I'd watch how well Sellers does on special teams ...because, he's gunna have to prove he deserves a spot on the team due to that. I do think his best days are gone and I wouldn't be suprised if he is cut early to give him a chance to catch on with another team...I just dont want it to be in the same division...the guy can maul you if he's on his game.
Regarding Johnson....true, the blocking sucked...and it was against the Ravens, and some of the plays didn't match his power game strengths....
But c'mon....8 carries is enough for you to break one if you still have something to prove....4 yards is pathetic....just pathetic.....I'll say it again
PATHETIC
theJBexperience 08-23-2010, 03:46 PM You really think that he is better than Portis???
OK Whose stats are whose from last year?
124 ATT 494 yards 4.0 AVG 1 TD
109 ATT 544 yards 5.0 AVG 12 TDs
McGahee owned Clinton in 2009. And to me, on Saturday, he looked like he had more of a burst than CP, and he's got a nose for the endzone. Clinton does look better than last year, but I still give McGahee a slight edge.
If not Portis, McGahee is definitely way ahead of the rest of our RB corps. Although, I am encouraged by Torrain and Williams. McGahee would be a way better veteran backup than LJ & WP.
Rich Campbell charted LJ's runs:
1. 4-yard gain: Johnson got around the right edge even though C Casey Rabach and RT Jammal Brown were pushed back and LB Ray Lewis penetrated the backfield through RG Artis Hicks.
2. 4-yard loss: FB Mike Sellers missed the lead block.
3. No gain: Baltimore’s linebackers plugged the gaps, and RG Artis Hicks was beaten.
4. 3-yard gain: RG Artis Hicks was pushed back into the backfield, forcing Johnson to make his cut prematurely.
5. No gain: LT Trent Williams missed his block in space on the left edge.
6. 3-yard loss: LT Trent Williams was driven back by LB Terrell Suggs, blowing up the play in the backfield.
7. 2-yard gain: There wasn’t a significant hole for Johnson to hit. Perhaps he could have done more on this one if he had hit it faster. FB Mike Sellers was injured on this play.
8. 2-yard gain: Johnson tripped over RG Artis Hicks’ legs.
…so as you can see, the offensive line gets a fair share of the blame for Johnson’s poor production.

Come on Matty, you know we HAVE to blame one and only one person. [/sarcasm]
Back to the thread, did I read correctly that Carter will play Strong Safety? Don't we have a bunch of them already?
Dirtbag59 08-23-2010, 04:40 PM I think the Redskins should think about signing Jason Davis from the Jets when he gets released. Apparently he's NFL caliber but being stuck in camp with John Conner and Tony Richardson doesn't help when you're trying to make a team.

I think you mean whose stats are worse but Portis was hurt last year and the O-line sucked. This season will see Portis return to form to the tune of 1200+ yards and 12-15 TDs.

Blame is to be shared, but everything being equal, Portis performed and LJ did not.
I mentioned that Carter "played" strong safety in Pitt...I doubt we signed him to do the same here....especially since the Skins claim our safeties are interchangable.
My point is based on limited knowlege....keep in mind this same guy backed up Ryan Clarke when he was out too....and he is their free safety.
Pitt released the guy based on filling in for Palomatu (strong) for what it is worth...and he apparantly had a couple defender of the week awards.
What would be helpful is if someone has seen this guy in action and can give us a solid opinion of his play

You must also watch hard knocks because thats what Rex Ryan said
