That Guy

the 15 yard penalty this week was a bad call by the refs, steelers fans i know were a bit surprised by it. His last 15 yard was for punching TO... that was stupid, but at least he hit the right person.
Gibbs deserves credit for...That Guy 11-29-2004, 05:59 PM the 15 yard penalty this week was a bad call by the refs, steelers fans i know were a bit surprised by it. Cooley and Wilson seem to have panned out, a bit too early to tell with Wilson. Let's look at some FA signings by Joe Gibbs: Mark Brunell - The QB of right now. Still a great competitor and brings veteran leadership and smarts to the team. +10 points for Gibbs. Mike Barrow - Another veteran guy coming off a great season. Who needs a physical? Not Mike Barrow. Another 10 point gain for Mr. Gibbs! Ray Brown - weighing in at 42 years young he brings in yet another veteran that's able to show his prowess on the offensive line. Getting beat only 10 times a game. He helped Gibbs the first time around. WHats the difference between Brown and Bugel? This gets Gibbs +11. Clinton Portis - Trade an ingrate for one of today's top tailbacks. Great move! Portis has the speed and talent to break the big ball every time he touches it. Luckily he got the ball only nine times last game. +2 points for the acquisition. +8 for recent use of it! Gibbs did a good job through the draft, but brought in a lot of horrible players. I'm curious how his eye for talent really is. MTK 11-29-2004, 06:37 PM Taylor was a shoe in to be a great player. Cooley and Wilson seem to have panned out, a bit too early to tell with Wilson. He should play next year and be back to his old self. I'm not ready to write him off as a bad pickup. You can't account for injuries. Ray Brown was brought in out of need, he wasn't brought in to be a superstar or anything and for the most part he's done an admirable job. Who else is out there anyway? Portis has a long career ahead of him and has many big games left in a Skins uniform. Are you calling him a bad move, daseal?? Who are all the horrible players you're referring to, other than Brunell? That Guy 11-29-2004, 06:48 PM brunell, lavar, samuels, and coles are the guys that have played way below salary this year... portis has stunk for two games (well, he hasn't had enough carries in either), but thats not entirely his fault. wolfeskins 11-29-2004, 07:24 PM lavar has been hurt and has missed the last 9 games, kinda makes me laugh when you say he's played below salary MTK 11-29-2004, 07:44 PM lavar has been hurt and has missed the last 9 games, kinda makes me laugh when you say he's played below salary Same deal with Barrow, I don't get it when people write him off as being a bust. Was it his fault he got hurt? Barrow has been a quality MLB for years now and has always been very healthy. He misses one season with an injury and all of a sudden he's a bust and a big mistake on our part? Gmanc711 11-29-2004, 08:11 PM The only offseason move you can blame Gibbs for is, you guessed it... Brunell! That is the only aquisition I heard anyone question at the time we did it, so thats the only one people should really complain about. In my opinion, if you were all aboard when they did the inital deal, it means you would have done the same thing. I'm sure that's not true in all cases, but I didnt really see the "Why did we sign Barrow" threads when he got signed. He cant be classifyed as a bust, dissapointing yes, a bust, no. Daseal 11-29-2004, 09:33 PM You remember the calls of relief when we signed Ray Brown to the team? And no, I'm calling Portis a good move. 1-10 scale of sarcasm here. Just don't like how he's been (mis)used the last few game. We've gotten away from him. LongTimeSkinsFan 11-29-2004, 10:58 PM I'm not too high on Taylor right now. Yes...he's improved a lot in playing his position. But, he got a bone-headed 15 yd penalty against the Steelers last night and I think he had another one called against him a few games back. Until he learns to control his emotions and not get any dumb penalties...I wouldn't consider him a "probowl" material. I know sometimes these penalties do hurt, but in my opinion ST is playing good hard-nosed smash-mouth football "you come into my house, you step on my turf, you pay the price". Safeties like Taylor and the oft-maligned Matt Bowen ingrain themselves in receiver's memories as being "the guy that knocked me clear to Friday the last time we played the skins". Our D needs players like ST that are agressive and lay down the law in the middle. When opposing offenses recognize our defensive middle as "sacred turf" and start making a conscious effort to stay away from the middle that gives us one more element of having a dominating and intimidating defense and I don't think you can have that without an occasional penalty, stupid or otherwise. bedlamVR 11-30-2004, 02:12 AM I thought Ray Brown has been quite a good pick up rembering who he has been up against might be old but age isn't everything |
