Buying My First HD TV & Need Help

Another small piece of advice, get a HDMI cable to hook things up from your box to the TV. It's the best quality cable you can use, otherwise you're not getting everything you can out of your TV.

Thanks for the info. I just figured that when direct TV said they have so many HD ch. I had them when I hooked up the TV. Now they want $100 for a box and I got ticked and told the guy to go F%#$ them self. I have had their service for 10 years and they can't cough up an HD box. If I was a new customer they would give me the boxs and a few free movy ch.

Different signal, need different equipment. Try looking on eBay.

Actually I challenge you if HDMI gives you the best signal most high end audio/video places use component cables. HDMI gives you the best picture with the easiest hookup but I believe for the best picture you still should run component cables (high end ones).

From what I understand while there's not always a huge difference, component can't handle 1080p so you would definitely want HDMI for blu-ray, plus the ease of having one cable is nice.

Is there competition in your area? I would tell them do this now or I will take my business to a Cable company. There's no fcking reason you should pay $100 up front for the box.

Oh and don't over pay for an HDMI cable. They are dirt cheap and no more than 15 bucks.

1st try hooking up some rabbit ears to it I bet you pick up at least all your local channels in HD, I am being serious. My locals look better over rabbit ears then through Comcast.

I'd love to tell Direct TV To stick it but they are the only one who have the NFL network. Other then that I'd drop them. I'v look on Ebay like others have sugested but they go for $70 and up when the bidding is done. I'd be better off getting a new one from DTV.

Only problem is cable blows vs DirecTV when it comes to their HD offering, both in number of HD channels and picture quality.

He probably could have sweet talked them into a free upgrade or a few months worth of free movie channels, but telling them to F off probably isn't the best route.
