Mcnabb 11-12-2010, 11:02 AM If I didnt think we could make the SB, then I wouldnt watch them? I believe every year that we can win a SB. Its the NFL, any given sunday! Just look at clevelend beating the pats??? I think if we make the playoffs anything can happen.
Jontrem 11-12-2010, 11:03 AM We were up 14-0 when Vick left the game. I remain unclear how the Eagles' losing a qb who had led the offense to zero points was a "huge break" for us.
The only relatively objective yardstick for judging the Vick-Eagles vs. the Skins is that 14-0 score. Everything else is just speculation.
I grant that Vick is having a great year. But some folks here are turning Vick into a superman which Vick is not.
I would also say we weren't done too big of a favor when we knocked Steve Jackson out of the St Louis game since then they moved to a passing attack that we were not prepared for or able to deal with.
Sure, any given Sunday, but let's be real. There are a handful of teams that are serious SB contenders, another handful of teams that are playoff worthy but would need a lot of breaks to reach the SB, and the rest are just playing out the string. I think we're on the edge of being a playoff contender.

Well we could have beat the Colts, but we f**ked that up lol however if we can contend with them, im confident we can beat any of the 31 other teams, but yeah i agree if we make the playoffs this year I will be happy.

Good point.
aceinthehouse 11-12-2010, 12:03 PM Winning cures everything.
If we can somehow pull out a win Monday Night, than this team has a good shot to make the playoffs.
We may not have the quantity of wins to win the Division and or get a high Playoff seeding, but our Quality wins are very,VERY good.
It's quite possible that the 2 NFC losses we have(Rams,Lions) won't even sniff the playoffs...so there won't be a head-to-head tiebreakers to deal with at seasons end.
Which is why we need the Rams to either win their Division outright,or start losing more games and tank. Both are possible scenarios.
Our other 2 Losses came to AFC teams which will have little,to no affect on us when sorting out the Playoff teams and their seedings.
So sweeping Philly will be absolutely HUGE in continuing this theme. If we sweep Philly, then all we have to do is 2 things to beat them out of the Playoffs.
#1)make sure we have at least the same # of Division wins as they do at end of season and no less. (We would be 3-0 and they would be 0-2 if we beat them there)
and
#2)make sure we have at least the same overall record as they do and no less at end of season.
If any of these scenarios are true, then we have dibbs over the Eagles for the Playoffs.
What the Redskins need more than anything right now, besides just WINNING their games...is
#1)They need the Packers,Bears both to stay even keel with the redskins overall record.
#2)They need either the Saints or Bucs to start losing games.
#3)They need the Rams to either win their Division or tank the season and be nowhere near the playoffs.
#4)They need the Cowboys to throw wrinkle upsets against the Giants or Eagles or both to take some pressure off the Skins.
#5)They need to stay as close as they can with the Giants as much as possible with weeks 13 and week 17 looming.
If all 5 of these things can happen in our favor,we not only will make the playoffs...but we will win our Division for the 1st time since 1999.
And don't kid yourselves...the Dallas Cowbous will play a key role in helping us make this happen, whether they beat the Giants or Eagles in any of these matchups.
If we win Monday Night and Dallas knocks off the Giants,we'll be 1 game back, with 7 games remaining.
Lets do this!!

So much changes week to week, all I can say is regardless of what happens on Monday, we won't be out of the hunt anymore than we could be back in it.

I think you got Quality and Quantity reversed.
Also "If all 5 of these things can happen in our favor,we not only will make the playoffs...but we will win our Division for the 1st time since 1999." This kind of logic drives me crazy. How bout if the Skins start playing hard, consistent football, We wouldn't need to rely on all this luck and unlikely variables to stumble into the playoffs. This is no way to make the playoffs.
I like your unwavering positive attitude but...
CRedskinsRule 11-12-2010, 01:00 PM Actually Ace is using correct NFL terminology as opposed to "Real" terminology.
See, the NFL counts a win (amazingly) as a WIN for tiebreakers and comparisons. SO if we beat the Eagles by 1 we get the same QUALITY win (since it is division and conference opponent) as if we had beat them by 30.
You use the "real" definition, where a 1 point win is not a QUALITY win, but just a poor man's win with comments.
So, in NFL terms we have 4 QUALITY wins, 2 that are division, (high quality), 2 that are Conference contenders (quality in that A- they are in conference and B- both would seem to be competitors for a playoff spot). On the other hand 3 of our 4 losses could be considered low quality losses (2 are out of conference and have little bearing on wild card tiebreakers, 1(lions) is in conference but unlikely to be a wild card competitor.) so out of our 4 losses, at this point only one would appear to be a NFL quality loss. That is the Rams, because we could end up losing a tiebreaker for a wild card spot to them.
Obviously, his use of quantity is correct as we would all like a better quantity of wins.

Really, and in the case of a divisional win/lose tie, split evenly, what determines the 1st place team?
