two weeks after benching him for performance? Holy hell... this team is going to give me an aneurysm.

What's funny is that Cutler (who lots of Redskins fans wanted) before he was traded to Chicago, signed a contract with the Bears for almost 1/2 the price.

10/20/2009: Signed a five-year, $49.77 million contract. The deal contains $20 million guaranteed, including a $7 million signing bonus, virtually all of Cutler's first-year salary, and $3.3 million of his 2010 base pay. Cutler can earn $500,000 workout bonuses in each year 2010-2013. 2009: $10.035 million (+ $100,000 workout bonus), 2010: $7.5 million, 2011: $8.1 million, 2012: $8.2 million, 2013: $8.9 million, 2014: Free Agent. Cap charge: $11.435 million (2009).

I personally don't care how much we invest in him. As long as there is no salary cap, it's Dan Snyder's money, not mine. I'm just glad he'll be here for another couple years so thats one less thing we have to worry about. I'd like to take a QB in the 2012 draft; groom him for a year or so and then bring him in. The time/amount don't really bother me at all.

Even though this is supposedly Bruce Allen's deal...the timing of the announcement being just hours before the monday night matchup with his old team reeks of Snyder.
(not to mention the wad of cash)

"(18) Any increase in a playe's Salary for the current League Year, if the NFL Management Council does not receive notice of the salary terms of such an executed extended or renegotiated contract prior to 4:00 p.m. (New York Time) on the Monday of the tenth week of the regular season.

Analysis: The deadline for adding non-prorated salary to a player's contract is monday of week 10. After that, any increase in salary gets prorated as though it is a signing bonus."

That is from the current CBA and may be a part of why the deal got done before 4pm today. Just means any increase in this years salary doesn't get pro-rated ala a signing bonus.

Overall, McNabb was gonna get paid, and this seems about right to me, it's not Peyton Manning money, but it is reflective of a multi year PB contender, and top (not elite) qb.

Who cares about this generation's Jeff George? Arm with no leadership. Donovan is worth twice as much for his huddle presence alone.

Right now I'm hearing this is essentially a 2-3 year deal. The total money likely to be paid out is much less than being reported, kind of like Haynesworth and his $100 million

But still trying to confirm things.

I hear that McNabb had to take a cardiovascular endurance test before getting the new deal.
I heard it consisted of running a 2 min O.

You can't add the 8 mill to the 15.6 mill.

78Mill over 5 years = 15.6 mill per year.

40 mill of the 78 is guaranteed so of the 15.6 mill per year 8 of that is guaranteed.

BUT

Chances are the bulk of the 40 is in the first few years, so probably its more weighted like 25 per year the first two years and 12.66mil the last 3 years.

Here is a link to a good article (not on the salary but the benching/extension connection)
The Bench, The Bank and in everything Between! « DC Sports Radio (http://dcsportsradio.com/2010/11/15/the-bench-the-bank-and-in-everything-between/)

GC on it only being 15.6 mil per year, i was about to say I did that wrong because the 8 mil bonus would be part of the 15.6 mil per year total cost.

I think the contract is probably gonna be front loaded because they don't know how many years McNabb is going to give us as a starting quarterback. So even though it averages 15.6 mil per year, it's probably gonna be a lot higher than that in the first 1-3 years of the deal, then a lot lower than that in the final 2 years so we can release him or if he retires and we don't want a huge cap hit.

Giving up possibly two young guys who could have established stability at a position for over half a decade(i.e Landry and Nate Allen at safety) for someone who would be lucky to last that long is not a very sound strategy. Also, it removes the ability to sacrifice a season to target the next big QB that will be coming in the near future.

A franchise quarterback is worth any two starting defensive players.
