They're not going to release Haynesworth without getting something for him.

I doubt any team will pony up even a 7th rounder at this point.

You can't pay a guy that kind of money and then just cut him.

If the team was willing to use him as a plugging NT, then why not just cut your losses and let him go?

PD's thoughts reflect, as I've heard it, basically the entire locker room now re: AH

Redskins - - under the leadership of Danny Boy Snyder - - have a long history of paying players to come here and then cutting/releasing them for nothing.

The pattern works over a decade of Redskins' history; there is no reason to believe it cannot happen again.

And by the way, since the Skins and AH have been so public in their contretemps, what would be the incentive for another team to "work something out" with the Skins to acquire Haynesworth? It isn't as if there are a bunch of GMs out there who think that everything is hunky-dory between Haynesworth and the folks who run the team...

The Redskins should sue his ass and recoup some cash back, then trade him or cut his fat ass. I'm sure they could find a reason to sue his ass, such as not performing.

Yeah he needs to be told to stay away from the team until the season is over. Then sever the cord.

I'm no lawyer, but its not that easy. Plus, big Al would have the union fighting tooth and nail for him.

I respect PD cause he's a true pro and I like the way he goes about his business. But to be honest he's part of the reason why this team isn't any good. Calling out AH is fine but having solid locker room guys don't win football games.

Can't sum it up any better than this:

On if Shanahan didn’t put the team first by benching Haynesworth:

“I think it’s the other way around. I think he puts the team first because he won’t let one guy come in here and destroy what we have. You put the team first when you think about the future and the things we have to do. If you don’t practice, you don’t play and that’s putting the team first and giving us the best chance to go out and be successful. He has to understand that. Coach Shanahan is doing a good job of that. He knew what we were missing last year. He knew we missed a lot of practices. The first thing they looked at when they came here, I bet, was how many practices everyone missed. You’ve got to change something. You can’t just sit there and keep letting it happen. That’s what he’s trying to do.”

He's got the Redskins by the balls. Nothing they can do except cut their losses.
