If you look at it that way, the owner or someone from the team also agreed to it and signed it, so they should also honor it and not ask him to restucture.

The contract is not guarenteed by the team that is part of the deal, and because of this player's may recieve a bigger contract with the team knowing they can opt out, but the player does not have that option he is bound by that contract, as well as when they sign the contract they do so knowing that those are the tearm's if he didn't like it he didn't have to sign it at the time, but he did like it, and as it turned out thing's went pretty well for him on the field and now he want's more, but if thing's didn't go so well he wouldn't be parading for a pay cut now would he.

Guys, he is honoring his contract. He offered to buy it out because he left, the only thing he isn't doing is taking a paycut, and who can blame him? He didn't say "I'm not showing up to training camp" he said he'd play, but he also said he was unhappy there. Why is this such a big deal, he's being an adult about it, and NE is much more likely to trade him if everyone knows he want's out.

You think contracts mean shit? He's not going to restructure, and you think contracts are always acted upon? Not in this league guys. Players are cut the second they make too much money, they have their contracts voided by the owners. The owners don't give the players any sort of special contract agreement, why should the players always live their contracts out?

Which is he doing, he just doesn't want to restructure for a lot less than what he's worth. I'd take his same posiiton right now unless I really had close ties in that orginization. He single-handedly beat the colts. He beat up Harrison and stole the ball a bunch, and he gets rewarded by a paycut.

They should play thier contract's out because of a speacilty in the contract, it's called a signing bonus, they seem to forget all about the upfront money and only look at what's left on thier contract, and that is a big part of the contract, the player get's a guarenteed bonus up front and the team get's a more managable cap friendly contract down the road, as far as his performance you don't think that the rest of the team has a hand in his success? learning form belichik as well as parcell's and playing in thier defensive schemes had a lot to do with his success, we saw first hand this year what bad coaching can do to a player's success, it can really keep a player down if the coach doesn't use him properly, law has also said he doesn't know how he could play again for the patriots. although he didn't say he wouldn't he is trying real hard to force his way into a new contract some how or some way.

First of all, what's all the talk about him sitting out. He said he want's out of the orginization, but he clearly states he WILL PLAY OUT THE REST OF HIS CONTRACT. The signing bonus point is good, but in the long run would save NE money to cut him, and he even offered to buy it out. Which to me says how much he really no longer wants to be in NE.

I don't think a player of Law's stature should have to take a paycut after he had an incrediable season and took them to a Super Bowl. He's not happy within the orginization and ASKED to be let out. Is he demanding anything? Is he going to sit out? As far as I'm concerned with all the trades/cuts going on, why not ask. You might just get your wish. Sure he can stay on the Pats pay roll for two years making a shitload of money and not restructure or want to be there. Or they could trade him for another player and picks (I hear Seattle is willing to let Alexander go for a CB) and I bet you they use 1 of the 1st rounders on a CB.

Stop with the greed. It's an insult.

I'm paying you 30,000 dollars a year, and it's time for your yearly review. You've been an excellent part of my company and you've really helped us do a lot here! I'm prepared to offer you 18,000 dollars a year now. You've done so well you've earned a paycut. Congratulations.

Listen, none of us would EVER take that in our real lives, why should these guys? Granted the numbers are quite a bit higher, but if you were in his position you'd do the same damn thing. You want to give me a fraction of my previous salary, even though I had a pro-bowl callibre year?

Don't even lie and say that wouldn't piss you off, especially if you weren't exactly happy with the company. You'd go shopping.

Contracts in the NFL are meant to be broke. Mainly by owners, but I see absolutly no problem in a player asking to be released. If I were an owner I'd like to know who doesn't want to be there. I'd try to work it out with the player, but if I couldn't I'd probably release them. Simply because you want people who want to be there. Anyhow, I think Ty Law wants to make money (who can blame them, I don't see anyone crucifying LaVar after his outrageous contract, he's just trying to get his, right?)

Even if you could make 30 million else where? I seriously doubt you'd take a 10 million paycut before you'd take a 10 million raise.

I wasen't aware that new england want's him to take a pay cut, I thougt he just wanted to renegotiate, If they are asking him to take a pay cut then I would have to say coming off a SB win that's not right, but if he just stick's to his gun's he will get his wish and be released or traded or they will pay him the remainder of his contract.
