The market will quickly set the price for Rogers. He's dreaming if he thinks he's going to cash in big.
Nnamdi Asomugha contract voided should Redskins go after him or do you think the price will be too high.MTK 07-07-2011, 11:06 AM The market will quickly set the price for Rogers. I think he can cash in big. There are a bunch of teams in the bidding war for asomuhga, rogers is close to next in line. Asomuhga will cash in big, then the losers of that battle will battle over carlos, joseph, cromartie, and taylor (and I do believe the one year differance between rodger and taylor will edge things towards rodgers). I think that with the trend in the league being to have 3-5 WR's on the field, teams will value having multiple solid DB's, and there seems to be a lack of DB talent in the league. Detroit and Houston come to mind as the biggest possible suitors. I'd even argue that the majority of teams out there are in the market for a solid corner. Especially considering how many WR's are now being used, the more DBs a team has the better. Out of the teams that spend money on free agents I'd say phili, Dallas, Tenn, TB, St. L, San Fran, Oakland, Baltimore, Chicago, Denver, and Cleveland are possible spenders. And with the way the new cba looks to be structured, the salary floor looks like it will be significantly raised by each team, so teams that normally don't like to spend might end up having to do so. I think Carlos will get a good deal for sure. I will be shocked if he doesn't get at least 6 mil a year. Nate Burleson got a 5 year 25 mil contract, the salary cap is going up, the salary floor is going up, and rodgers is significantly better than burleson IMO. Yes I know he has the dropsies, but he is a solid cover corner and a good tackler. We are mad at him for only having two picks, but that is not all that off from the rest of the league, and we are mad at him because he is good enough to be in good position to make plays on the ball. He is an asset any team would like to have. SBXVII 07-07-2011, 11:49 AM No doubt I would in a heartbeat, he's a team guy and a true shutdown corner, let Los walk and sign NA. We could play true man to man plus he's only 30, I see Dallas getting him though I too would take him in a heartbeat and let LOS go. You haven't heard? Dallas is in CAP hell. lol. Sound familiar? Roy Williams could be victim of salary cap | ProFootballTalk (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/07/06/roy-williams-could-be-victim-of-salary-cap/) I hope they can't solve their issue's with simple number crunching. Anybody know what our cap situation will be given the possible new salary cap? SBXVII 07-07-2011, 11:58 AM The market will quickly set the price for Rogers. He's dreaming if he thinks he's going to cash in big. Sometimes teams don't pay what the player is worth, other times players ask for more then their worth. I personally see LOS in the latter catagory. I'd be suprised if he stays. Otherwise he's in for a rude awakening .... or both. Alvin Walton 07-07-2011, 12:00 PM More Nnamdi talk. It just doesn't sit well with me that Shanahan's first big personnel move as our HC was possibly the worst of his career. Not exactly a confidence builder, especially when it involves the most important position on the field. I know the DM thing has been beaten to death so I'm not gonna rant, I just personally don't want to see us pay out 10's of millions for another vet over 30 years old when we have so many other pressing needs. Also, given D'Angelo's contract and the contract that Landry is going to be looking for after this year, we'd be ill-advised to tie up that much money in the secondary with Nnamdi. I'd say using a 1st, 3rd, and 5th to get jarvis moss was worse. But not important. IMO shannahan is not a good talent evaluator. He has hit in the draft on Cutler, Marshall, Dumerville, Portis, Clady, etc... but he also seems to miss big alot. I heard him say that if cutler wasn't available he would trade up to get Laurance Maroney. Jarvis Moss, Ashley Lelie, George Foster, Tim Crowder were all terrible. His free agent pick ups havent seemed to consistantly pan out that well. In 2007 his trade for Dre Bly (tatum Bell George Foster and a 5th) wasn't terrible, but IMO it didn't pan out as Bly was released after 2 years with the team, and in 2007 literally every one of his free agent signings was terrible. He shelled out big money to Bly, Travis Henry, Daniel Grahm, and Brandon Stokley. He wiffed on all of them IMO. He also signed Sam adams, warrick holdman, DD Lewis (those were the next 3 big names) and 9 other guys that all just sucked. Shannahan's not the worst talent evaluator because he does hit on players, but I don't think he's good because he also seems to swing big and miss alot (Mcnabb is one of the many notches on that belt). SBXVII 07-07-2011, 05:25 PM Anybody know what our cap situation will be given the possible new salary cap? Maybe this helps.... NFL: Teams most hurt, helped by salary-cap proposal - ESPN (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=clayton_john&id=6699864) Teams affected positively: 1. Washington Redskins (http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/_/name/wsh/washington-redskins): Owner Dan Snyder gave defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=3543) and cornerback DeAngelo Hall (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=5533) around $36 million in bonus money in 2010 to free up room to be a big spender in free agency in 2011. Snyder and Mike Shanahan will have to be creative in how they structure contracts, because the $120 million cap would give them only around $10 million of cap room. On the positive side, the Redskins' current payroll is $75.7 million, meaning Snyder would have to spend close to $45 million in cash to meet the potential minimum floor requirements. Imagine a system that forces Snyder to spend. Teams affected negatively: 4. Dallas Cowboys (http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/_/name/dal/dallas-cowboys): Owner Jerry Jones made sure his team wouldn't be ripped apart during tough labor times. He's always aggressive in re-signing his top players. But the Cowboys are currently a minimum of $18.9 million over the salary cap, which could spell doom for right tackle Marc Colombo (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=3557), wide receiver Roy Williams (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=5532) and others. Jones also has to come up with some room to re-sign left tackle Doug Free (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=10565) and others. Longtimefan 07-07-2011, 06:37 PM I don't see him landing here at all. The bidding war for him is going to be crazy. It's been reported he's seeking $19 million a year which would make him the highest paid player in the history of the NFL. That's a steep price for any player. I agree....and don't see it happening here. |
