Believe it or not Coles is now 1 catch ahead of Owens in the NFC with 76, putting him 2nd overall behind Joe Horn.

Yeah I'm well aware who's got more TD's and who's on a winning team, just wanted to point that out. I was kinda surprised to see that.
Daseal 12-14-2004, 08:52 AM Honestly, LC is our receiver, not our president. Who gives a shit about class? Taylor is classless and we love him for it! I respect Coles a lot, but he's hurt and not sure if he'll ever allow himself to get healthy.
Have you seen Coles' toe? I think it's obvious that Steve Smith is faster, plays with a chip on his shoulder, and makes big plays constantly. He may not be faster, but if you had a foot race at the begining of the year with Coles' toe he'd get burned by Smith.
As far as Horn's salary? Take a look at Coles salary, it's right up there with his.
Mason I agree, they're somewhat a push and I don't think I'd trade for Mason, but I'm talking about there here and now. Mason is playing very good football.
Chambers and Booker are certainly different receivers than Coles. I kinda like big receivers and small running backs! I like CHambers verticle leap, he has the size and speed combination with good hands. I think if he had someone besides AJ Feeley throwing him the ball he'd be great. Don't forget, Marty Booker is a former pro-bowl player from the BEARS. He actually got to the pro-bowl via voting, not surgery! I think Booker is a great player but burdened with the same problems as the other guy. Last year we threw the ball enough that Coles had to get stats, the Dolphins don't.
As far as heart and fumbling, Coles is the whole package. I love Coles when he's healthy, but I'm afraid he can't take the necessary time to let his body heal. If it means missing a few games, Im willing to sacrifice to get him back!
Matty - look at the important stats, yards per catch and TDs! Any fulltime starter should have receptions (though the number also suprises me) but how many of them have been those stupid hitch passes?
Didn't I say I'm aware who has more TD's?
ugh
Coles is 4th in the NFL in catches on pace for 90+ and 1000 yards, not bad for someone with a bum toe.
The WP said he will consider toe surgery after the season. Let's hope so, obviously Coles at 75% is still a good WR, but not in the very good category that he's capable of.
VTSkins897 12-14-2004, 09:23 AM i agree w. matty's list pretty much. i'd take coles over toomer too though. and if you're gonna say look at coles' toe in measuring speed, then it's fair to say look at smith's knee (or whatever he injured). i'm sure coles would take him right now, and if both were healthy.

So as I understand it, Coles didn't practice at all last week until Friday-resting his body-and ended up having one of his better games of the year. Is the first time he hasn't practiced, and if so should this have been the strategy all along? Didn't Gary Clark do something similar in his playing days?
And Matty are you aware who has more TDs? :D
LOL no I'm not, by the way Coles has a lot of catches, did I mention that already?

i'd like to see Randy Moss try and catch Brunell's overthrows in the end zone.
who knew the tv quarterback challenge was a telling gauge for how accurate a QB really is.
Daseal 12-14-2004, 12:31 PM Matty - it was obvious you were aware. I said which ones are important? YPC and TDs. Not catches. If he has 30 catches for 25TDs and 40YPC I'd be much happier than 90 catches for 10.8 yards per and 1 TD like he has now!
I think Coles is a great receiver, but it's obvious he's hurt. Resting him during the week is good, but I think he needs more than that.
Coming out of college:
Steve Smith: 4.45
http://home.earthlink.net/~seifertsite/01draft.html
Coles ran a 4.16 at Florida state. Which is ungodly, probably hand timed. I can't find the combine numbers on him. When at the Jets he was clocked at 4.29, which is still fast as hell.

I was wrong about the speed!
Sheriff Gonna Getcha 12-14-2004, 02:45 PM 4.16, that's got to be close to breaking the sound barrier! I never heard of anyone beaking 4.2 and anyone under 4.3 is a speed demon.

I like Taylor's mean streak, but I don't like his lack of class (i.e. DUI, spitting on T.J. Houzmenzadah - I can't spell it, unnecessary roughness, etc.). Class means something to me as far as how much I respect the guy. A players' classiness also affect the locker room. Can you imagine how much TO would be bitchin' right now if he had Coles' ypc and TD stats? He's be ruining the locker room chemistry. So yes, class means something to me, especially at the WR position, where it is such a hard quality to find and can have such a big impact on the locker room and team chemistry.
Coles' cap figure this year is only 2.4 million and next year it's 3.4 million.
I believe Horn's cap hit is almost double Coles' for the next two seasons (after which Horn becomes a UFA).
