i honestly dont believe that gibbs is afraid to admit his mistake (brunell) more than he is just trying to protect the pride and dignity of a veteran quarterback. i meen come on have you have ever seen any coach say at a press conference that they screwed up on the signing of a player while they were still with the team. lets be realistic he knows it wasnt the right move but hes doing the noble thing and the right thing for team chemistry by not coming out and saying brunell is washed up.

You are excactly right, Gibbs never says anything bad publicly about his players. The question is though should we cut him. I say yes, we dont' want his cap his to linger. I say we take the hit next year, and then have it over with.

It would be nice to get Brunell's cap hit out of the way in 2005, since 2006 is supposed to be the tough cap year for the Skins, but the question is how much would that inhibit critical re-signings (Smoot, Pierce) and the much-needed improvements on the O-line?

If the redskins dont have the #2 D in the league they come really close to losing this game. Twice they had 1st down on the 3 yd line and have to settle for field goals, thats pathetic especially against the 49ers.

all the right points Matty.

i was pretty upset how our team played actually, a 5-9 team has no business playing so overconfident, even against the niners.

- if our defense wasn't so busy reveling in their ranking and amped to get big hits, they'd be no.1! the defense deserves much this season, but they let the niners score on em!

- no one is a bigger Portishead than me (heh), but he looked SLOW on saturday. he played ""careful whenever he crossed the line of schrimmage, and would fall down (though forward) before any contact. was he trying not to get hurt?

- Gibbs didn't run outside ONCE it seemed, and you could see Portis's frustration on the side line. a sweep or a toss would have gotten us a sure score when we were on the 1yd line, Portis can outrun any linebacker. i saw a step back in how Gibbs plays Portis and (consequentially?) how Portis himself played. i don't get it, after Gibbs learned so much in the past couple weeks, he goes back to the tough plays inside and with pulls where Portis is deep in traffic and used to fumble. lo and behold 3.5 ypc and a fumble..

- our boy RAMSEY CAN SHED SACKS. he's got some moves! looks like he learned one good thing in Spurrier's duck and cover offense. he's mastered the big step into the pocket when a DE or blitzer is at your throat, that's like the fourth sack i've seen him squirm out of. Brunell may have better legs for rollouts, but Ramsey has some quick feet and quick mind in the direct line of fire. thats some poise for ya.

- Sean Taylor is trying TOO HARD to be a star. did you see his facemask all taped up?? he looked ridiculous (not nearly as cool as the red socks), and i think the NFL should fine him. LaVar too with that ancient facemask and the tape. at least LaVar has a bit more right acting that way, but coach Williams should condition these guys a bit more and get them into the egalitarian "group-think" that's made this no-name defense so good. ST needs to remember where he was on the depth chart, BEHIND Bowen and Lott, and that despite his physical gifts he's starting only because these smarter, more experienced guys are hurt. Williams, stay with the Redskins. and stay ON them too!

AMEN, but he did go outside once and lost like 10 yards. He keeps going with failing plays up the middle, shoulda eaten the one to the outside.
