RIP Amy WinehouseJoeRedskin 07-25-2011, 09:49 AM (Nevermind) over the mountain 07-27-2011, 12:57 PM Real sad to hear the news. Big fan. Was hoping to see her when ever she came back to do a US tour. Seen a good bit of her shows on video, without fail she would have to step off stage for a few seconds every few minutes, one time she didnt even bother and just pulled a lil bullet (coke snifing device that allows for quick bumps with no spill) from her bee hive hair, turned her head and took a bump . . . at a show she knew was being videotaped for production. Sad but not unexpected. djnemo65 07-27-2011, 01:42 PM She's most certainly is not worthy of pitty. Dumb statement. Drug addicts deserve pity. Terrible disease. mlmpetert 07-27-2011, 02:31 PM Dumb statement. Drug addicts deserve pity. Terrible disease. I cant help but think its kind of funny when people call drug and alcohol abuse a disease. Its like lets say you were dying of MS and someone said yeah i know how tough that is, my dad had a disease he died of.... he was a cocaine addict. Its got to be hard on your family too. I think people label drug abuse a disease because it makes it easier for them to apply pity and cope with a friend, family member, or famous person that abuses drugs. Either way i feel bad for Amy Winehouse and her family and wish them well. I was a fan of her artistry (i also think its funny when people call singers artist) and i am sad she died. Who knows maybe it will turn out that she didnt even die of drugs. I saw Nick Swardson stand up (on my tv) over the weekend and thought this was pretty funny too: Nick Swardson - Alcohol Poisoning - Video Clip | Comedy Central's Jokes.com (http://comedians.jokes.com/nick-swardson/videos/nick-swardson---alcohol-poisoning) djnemo65 07-27-2011, 03:39 PM I cant help but think its kind of funny when people call drug and alcohol abuse a disease. I think the argument Saden was trying to make is that people suffering from drug addiction are more culpable in their own affliction than people battling something like MS. I think that's pretty hard to argue with, since drug addiction involves an at least ostensibly voluntary behavioral component, whereas MS does not. But to then conclude that a brilliant and talented drug addict who dies before she is 30 should be denied our pity because she played a mechanical role in her own demise is, I think, dumb. (And I know Saden said this.) Nice little article on addiction as disease, holla: Addiction: The disease that lies – The Chart - CNN.com Blogs (http://thechart.blogs.cnn.com/2011/07/26/addiction-the-disease-that-lies/) MTK 07-27-2011, 03:43 PM ^^ agree Monkeydad 07-27-2011, 04:04 PM Amy Winehouse found dead. Cause of death: Amy Winehouse Honestly, I don't believe I ever heard one of her "songs" or whatever it was she did for a living, but just like Heath Ledger, Anna Nicole Smith and every other celebrity who kills themselves with chemicals, I have no sympathy for anyone but their family who had to watch them CHOOSE to destroy themselves. I hate how these people get celebrated and honored like heroes. mlmpetert 07-27-2011, 04:10 PM Amy Winehouse found dead. She was a artist, heres one of her masterpieces for you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tjNEK31O8E And she was infected with a disease brah, there was nothing she could do..... mlmpetert 07-27-2011, 04:16 PM Drug and alcohol abuse are not diseases; however, the underlying addiction that causes such abuse - preventing the addict from stopping behavior she knows is killing her - is a disease under any definition of that word. Its along the lines of depression, schizophrenia or the need to sign any possible kind of good wr you can get your hands on, all of which i dont really consider diseases. Theyre mental disorders. Monkeydad 07-27-2011, 04:20 PM She was infected with a disease brah, there was nothing she could do..... Drugs and alcohol = not diseases. They choose to put these things into their bodies. Sure, once they do, their minds and organs are altered and effected and that can lead to diseases...but they've made the choice to kill themselves this way. It's also tough to classify or justify something as a mental disorder when the actions include introducing chemicals to the body that alter the brain (proven). The effects of the action alter their brain, so how can we know if there was a predisposition that first caused them to make the choice? Yes, I have someone in my family who has been battling alcohol his whole life...I see the effects on the person and the rest of the family, but it's the path he chose. I'm obsessed with football...is that a "disease" too? | |
