Lavar to End

My bet is that GW will have a ton of packages that he uses each game. Some with LA playing end almost all game, i.e. playing against a passing team. Others where he will stay at backer on 1st and 2nd down, and I think he almost always will move up to end on 3rd.

With as much speed as our Defense will bring to the table next year I could see as many as 16 players playing all over the field and keeping our whole unit fresh.

Very true... even if they DO want to use LaVar as a DE, I would say at least keep his official position as LB. I remember he and Lewis did not get along so well.

I think we will see GW using 4 linebackers next season (on occasion). Let the offense guess who is coming!!!

I, too would love to see him try to add that in the offseason. Man, that would mess up the offense to see 4 down linemen and then one of them drop back as a linebacker.

I expect Williams will use LaVar at DE at times just like Lewis did. As for a full-time switch I highly doubt it.

Apparently, people on this board know more about defensive schemes and LaVar than Marvin Lewis, who used LaVar as a DE and squeezed 11 sacks out of the guy. As for the stupidity of moving someone to a different position....guys like Michael Boulware, Terrell Suggs, the Fridge, John Riggins, et al have shown its not so crazy to make such changes where appropriate.

Lining Lavar up at DE in certain passing situations is not the same thing as turning him into an everydown DE. Spotting Lavar at DE in some 3rd down situations as Marvin Lewis did is a good idea, converting him completely to DE would not be a good idea IMO.

Even though when I really think about it. A lot of people played in different positions all year 'round. Williams knows how and where to use guys.

LaVar wouldn't have a chance against a tackle in a run play if he was a full time DE.

Lavar will not have a specific position, just as the plan was this year before the injury. He will be officially listed as weak-side LB, but during the games he will line up practically all over the field depending on the situation to keep the offense off guard. I don't see an official position change, but I bet he'll definitely line up at DE a good bit.

Clemons may be worth a look at a DE in spot duty. He's quick and has a motor. Could be interesting against heavy pass teams.
