Chicago could just straight up sign him now. I'm not sure what the contractual difference is (if any) between signing him as a true FA or claiming him off waivers
I think, but am not sure, that if claimed off waivers, the claiming team must pick up the existing contract. Once cleared, the old contract "goes away" and McNabb is free to negotiate a new deal.

Believe Vikings could also pick him back up and try to trade him but there are different rules for different players at different times of the year

If I recall.. We got our 2nd round pick back that we lost in the Mcnabb deal, and actually gained a 6th rounder?

Nope, two 6th roundes. Anegative net of a 4th(not on the point chart), but we got that for Jason Campbell.
