I really don't think that Gibbs' playcalling was that far off based on the situation we had. Do you really think that we had the ability to go downfield all the time with success? I sure don't.
If we had just let it go, and used a normal playbook, by now there would be no Ramsey fans around because everyone would blame him. Instead, Gibbs protected Ramsey, and has taken the blame for conservatism. But it has given Ramsey a chance to develop, which is what every quarterback needs.
The fact is the receivers and the offensive line were big problems. There was a big challenge with our running game because we couldn't get the ball downfield and the line was stacked against Portis. No running back would have gotten through lines stacked like that.
So Ramsey didnt have the running game to protect him either.
When you are faced with the kind of challenges we had, it was smart to be conservative. I think he may have taken it a bit far - but the general strategy of conservatism was the best approach in my view.

Yeah, I definitely agree also. At first, I was like "Why aren't you going downfield?!?" during the season and then I understood it was all to get Ramsey's confidence back up after his relief appearances.

I'd tell Portis to slow the hell down until he sees daylight.
I'd remind Ramsey that Spurrier is no longer on the sidelines and the max-protect schemes are working.
I'd tell Coles to stop 'effin' around and have surgery on his toe. Cortisone kills.
I'd warn Washington about the dangers (injuries) of jumping five feet in the air after maiking a play on defense.
I'd tell Gibbs to hire a QB coach that'll help develop Ramsey, not resurrect Brunell.
I'd tell Greg Williams right now that the HC job is his when Gibbs departs.
I'd tell Tagliabue with the ninth pick of the 2005 NFL draft the Redskins select... oh, we have a trade.

I know we all hated Brunell, but I want to give credit where credit it due. If Musgrave DOES resurrect Brunell, we would have a hell of a quarterback. We all repress the memories of when Brunell was a damn good quarterback for Jacksonville. Ramsey doesn't possess that type of mobility but if Musgrave can mold him into the former accuracy that Brunell had, we're going to be doing just fine.

I'd tell Sean Taylor to work on controlling his "knock their heads off" mentality
I hope by control you mean that he takes more people heads off...

I would tell Ramsey to get in the weight room and start doing deep squat's that should quicken him up, give him more agility and more confidence that he can move out of trouble much easier and withstand a hit to the leg's in the pocket, this will help get rid of his happy feet, he will never be a burner but he can be quicker and stronger from the waist down with the proper weight training, which phycologically should help his overall game.

Am I the only one that hears Gibbs say the problems start with him?
Gibbs has never backed down from blame.
That was one of the few GOOD things about this season.....Joe Gibbs always pointed the blame at HIMSELF......he did NOT pass the buck to the players........(although he did criticize the officials)

Well you have to remember in addition to learning about all his players, and a few new coaches (ie Williams), Gibbs was trying to get up to speed on the changes in the league from when he had coached so he was in a learning curve himself. He also sees a young QB that probably had lost his confidence a bit after having to eat turf last year after being treated like a rag doll by opposing team defenses.......so Gibbs starts out slowly.........a little to slow for the team and the Redskin fans........But that last game he opened it up a bit and SUDDENLY the future looks bright for next year after he started throwing long passes and trying new things on offense.
