That Guy 07-06-2012, 07:55 PM Without getting into the advanced stats from sites like like pro football focus (which actually show that Hurt (a rookie) played about the same level as a Chris Chester (who is more expensive and totally overrated but everyone seems to love) for me I took notice that when Hurt settled ino the line-up the running game improved.
If Hurt isn't a potential starter he's at the very least quality depth.
how many teams would he start on? chester isn't really very good either, we just don't have a much better option, but i was asking for his replacement this offseason.
JGisLordOfTheRings 07-06-2012, 08:51 PM hurt is depth... quality depth? debatable. but i'd probably keep him and squad compton.
I'd say decent quality. He's been in the system a year and he did a damn good job as a road grater late in the season. His pass pro is horrendous though so, there's that.
I'm really hoping we found a diamond in the rough with some of this years OL picks.
KI Skins Fan 07-07-2012, 11:14 AM The article stated that Hurt has been moved from G to Tackle which is probably part of the reason that the author thinks that his chances of making the team aren't very good. He would have to beat out Willie Smith, who looked like a talented prospect last season, and Tyler Polumbus, who has more experience than Hurt does at OT, to win a job as a backup.
Another reason may be that the coaches like LeRibeus as a backup at C and G and I'm guessing that Shanny isn't about to cut a 3rd Round draft pick in favor of moving Hurt back to G unless Hurt is clearly the better prospect. Tyler Polumbus is also getting a lot of reps at G.
But who knows what will happen? Preseason games are yet to come and there could be injuries on the OL. Hurt might make the roster, after all.
IrMitchell 07-07-2012, 03:59 PM With all due respect, I thought Hurt was absolutely atrocious last year. I would hope that Gettis and LeRibeus bring a higher ceiling anyways, so it's not that bad of a trade off.

Exactly. Personally I hope Campbell is wrong about Gettis as I like him better then LeRiberus. Even though LeRibeus has that "the coaches and scouts saw something in him that we didn't" factor.
The Goat 07-07-2012, 08:14 PM No surprise if we have a same starters across the oline as last season, which doesn't bother me so long as Brown is healthy and much improved from what he's done with us so far. If Brown is still a liability there needs to be some real scrutiny of our FO/coaching staff wrt off-season personnel decisions.
I thought Hurt was learning and improving so it's a little surprising to hear he's not likely to return, but like others said it's still early.
And who the hell is Tom Compton...seriously I don't remember him and watched every game last year.

Tom Compton is,IMO, the best potential pick after RG3 in the draft we just had this year. He is a very athletic tackle from South Dakota. We definitely could see him starting for us at RT down the line later in the season when, more than likely, jamaal brown gets hurt.

Ahhh. Small school prospect w/ some potential. I like those types hopefully Compton is a keeper.
HailGreen28 07-08-2012, 07:26 PM I hate that the starters are being declared before training camp, but I guess that's normal.
I think it's foolish to think our starting OL won't be at least as injury prone, a year older. We need Ribs, Compton, or others to step up and win starting positions, if we're going to protect RGIII adequately.
