that's pretty awesome of wynn to have finally done that and he definitely took a big chunk off his contract.
and with Jansen, he just seems like the kind of guy who says: I didn't really earn my paycheck last year so let me rework this years and maybe next year so that when I prove I'm back to 100%, I'll be earning my pay and hopefully a new contract again. Cuz didn't he resign last offseason or shortly before the offseason began?

According to the NFLPA, here's how Wynn's base salary figures were adjusted:

Original contract:
2005: 3,500,000
2006: 4,000,000
2007: 4,000,000

Restructured contract:
2005: 665,000
2006: 1,000,000
2007: 2,000,000

That's a pretty significant restructuring. I'm not sure how the bonuses are distributed, but Canuck can probably figure that out for us.

I wasn't able to find any new information on Jansen's restructuring. I'm sure his 2005 savings were significant, but you have to keep in mind that his original salary figure for 2005 was 1.5 million less than Wynn's to begin with. I'm hoping that they structured Jansen's deal to save more money in 2006, where Jansen's hit is set to be $5.238 Million. It looks like Wynn's deal is going to be 2006-friendly, which is supposed to be the nasty cap year for the Skins.
Well he certainly wouldn't have left money on the table so you can assume that at the very least he got a SB of $7,835,000 to account for the salary lost. His previous bonus number was $583,000. Doing some quick math his bonus number this year would have to be $935,000 to account for the $1,900,000 savings. I would guess that's his base SB number(meaning he got a SB of $2,805,000) so that leaves roster bonuses of $5,030,000 spread out over the final two years.
So his cap numbers look something like this
2005: 2.183
2006: 5.033 (release fee of 3.036)
2007: 6.033 (release fee of 1.518)

the final two years could be anything really based on how they divide up the roster bonus money. I just divided it by half and went to town. I'd like to see what the real numbers show. Either way his cap numbers become craziness after this year and I doubt he is a Redskin beyond this year unless he signs and extension and moves a bunch of this money back again.

Great news. Now if we can get Samuels to restructure hopefully we can re-sign Pierce, and Smoot. Looks the like the FO is doing whatever they can to re-sign most of our core guys.

Great move - don't expect any Dline changes after Wynn stepped up like that!

hopefully Samuels will follow suit. As usual we should have plenty of cap room to do what we need to do.

Anyone have any ideas what kind of money they are talking about with Samuels. I ran some quick calculations and just about any realistic way of restructuring seems to help the cap the next two years but then the cap numbers become beyond huge. We're talking like 15 and 16 million with signing bonus money of like 8 or 9 a year. That seems a little extreme. I am guessing they are working on just a one year extension or maybe not even a extension and just a salaray reduction for '05 with that money going into a new signing bonus.

I've heard that Ramsey has also restructured but I can't find anything about it.

Interesting to note I guess that Renaldo Wynn is the Redskins representative for the NFL Players Union and Jansen is the alternate rep...anyway just a bit of trivia for you union buffs out there
