Neild Placed on IR, Redskins Add DL Marlon FavoriteSmootSmack 08-15-2012, 10:48 AM I expect he'll be back, but keep in mind technically he was waived so it's possible someone will claim him today. We shall see mlmpetert 08-15-2012, 10:50 AM Anyone know exactly how it happened? Did it just kind of pop like Jankins last year or did he have someone roll on it or fall into it? mlmpetert 08-15-2012, 10:51 AM Neild was impressive in the opener last season against the NYG. How many rookie defensive linemen can claim they sacked Eli Manning twice in their very first NFL game? But he was average most of last season. Word has it that Chris Baker was pushing Neild hard to become the back up NT. Maybe by injuring his ACL and being put on IR at this early stage of the preseason, Neild actually survived being waived. I hope he can come back next season very determined. We were all pretty surprised when Neild made it over Bryant last year. So if Baker was doing better than Nield and Nield is an upgrade over Bryant then it sounds like we are starting to get some really good depth at NT. Either way after Neild's huge game last year i became an immediate fan. I feel like he didnt get enough snaps at all last year and really wanted to see him play this year. If he can stay focused a year away from the game working on his technique and trying to get bigger, stronger, and faster might help him. Looking foward to him coming back strong next year. InsaneBoost 08-16-2012, 08:41 AM Would have loved to have him, but as long as Baker is healthy, I don't think it's going to be as bad as it could have been. REDSKINS4ever 08-16-2012, 04:32 PM Chris Baker has just about won the back up NT job. Neild proved his worth last season as a 7th round draft pick rookie. All Neild has to do is rehab and work on his strength and conditioning. I look forward to seeing Chris Neild back in '13. We shall see explain this more in terms of when you don't become waived and you can just go straight to the practice squad without him being 'waived' SmootSmack 08-16-2012, 05:09 PM explain this more in terms of when you don't become waived and you can just go straight to the practice squad without him being 'waived' Well even for the practice squad you're waived first. Neild was waived/injured and since no one has claimed him he's on the IR for the Redskins. Now he doesn't count against the 90 man pre-season roster. TheSmurfs22 08-16-2012, 05:38 PM As my six year old nephews says, "ahhh nuts!" CultBrennan59 08-16-2012, 06:57 PM Well even for the practice squad you're waived first. Neild was waived/injured and since no one has claimed him he's on the IR for the Redskins. Now he doesn't count against the 90 man pre-season roster. I know the whole practice squad waiving thing. But for example, when Adrian Peterson tore his ACL last year, his 5th year in the league, and him playing more than 75% of the season, they put him on IR. He went straight there and didn't have to be cut. Chris Neild is a 2nd year player who made the 53 man roster and played more than 8 games for us last year, but yet he has to be cut to go to IR. Is it because he hasn't played in the NFL that long? Or is it because he was a 7th rounder as opposed to a 1st rounder? MTK 08-16-2012, 07:39 PM The NFL's waiver wire process applies to players who have less than four seasons of league experience and are released from any of the league's 32 teams. Once a player with less than four seasons of league experience is cut or released from a team, the other 31 teams are given the chance to claim the player from the waiver wire. A team that claims a player from the waiver wire assumes the terms of the original contract agreed upon between the player and the team that released him.
