How the draft should go

Trading next year's picks for picks this year would be crazy and I'd be against it. We can't afford both Winslow and Taylor. The Redskins are going to need next year's picks to restock their roster with affordable players, so they can counterbalance all the big contracts they added this year and before.

Whoever they pick first, that kid better be a starter on opening day. If not then I think it was a wasted pick.

Someone like Taylor or Harris, but I think trading down and still landing that starter is a MUST.

I really dont like the idea of trading next years first rounder. We need to go into next year, in my opinion, with at least 6/7 picks ( including a first rounder ), I think the draft over the next couple years is going to be key to our success down the road, because you know we cant keep all the guys we have right now. If we can keep a core group ( ramsey/coles/Smoot/Jansen/Arrington) and bulid around them, I think that would be best. I just think we need to have a full draft one year, who knows if that will EVER happen though. We shall see

I don't know if Harris (who got burried in big games) could even start for us early on.

Offiss, I thought that maybe the falcons would bite, they have a lot of holes to fill as we do, but if we give them a good deal they might give them to us. I'd love to see both these guys with us, I am curious about cap room, but don't forget we can still cut Trung and other expendable players.

I know a lot of people would like to see how Trung plays in a different system, but if it comes down to Taylor/Winslow and Trung it's a no brainer, in my opinion.

I will pass this along from another board - information that indicates we are probably going to draft Kellen Winslow, if he doesn't take Poston as his agent. Apparently it is confirmed also on that board (from a 1984 Redskins press guide) that Rennie Simmons does have a daughter named Karen who is about the age of the woman mentioned here:

"I have some interesting information to share with you all. A friend of mine, who is a Cowboys fan, just got back from a vacation in Myrtle Beach. He was playing golf and guess who he was paired up with? A woman and a man and and after talking for a while it turns out the woman is none other than the daughter of the Redskins TE coach. My friend was talking about the NCAA tournament and told them that he's not really a big fan of it but he likes the NFL and the Dallas Cowboys more.

At that point, the woman told him who she was, her name is Karen. Here's how the rest of the conversation went as it was relayed to me an hour ago:

She has a big southern drawl, looked like she was in her late 30's, and told my friend that her "daddy is very proud of his 3 Super Bowl rings and 2 NFC championship rings (one, perhaps with the 1998 Atlanta Falcons), that she thinks a motivating reason why Joe Gibbs got back into coaching is because his wife wants Coy Gibbs, the son, to get out of Nascar and into coaching and this seemed like best way into it for Coy, she told my friend that her "daddy was at Redskins Headquarters at midnight ready to fly on "Redskins One" around the country when free agency started and that they had a second plane waiting to "intercept a player who was bound for another destination" (a player who was not mentioned who was signed by the Redskins), she said she it had a "cool upbringing";got to go to exclusive football parties, etc......"

but, here's the part you'll be interested in....

eventually, my friend says "so you gotta tell me cause I got a friend in NJ (me) who would want some information....who are the Redskins looking at this year....."

he, (her husband), said her father was there to meet Kellen Winslow and watch him workout. He said that her father thought the workout was only OK but he has a really bad attitude and was set against him. But then........the Redskins arranged a private 2nd workout with Winslow where he "blew all the coaches away" and they were left thinking this was one of the best atheletes they have ever seen.

they talked about the agent, posten....and said that the perception on posten in the NFL and with the redskins through the media doesnt even scratch the surface of how much the redskins have "disdain for him". he told me friend that the redskins are watching the situation very closely and if Winslow signs with Posten, the Redskins will not even consider drafting him, but if Winslow goes with a different agent, they want to take him, that's how impressed they were with him."

Yea nice job shane, big time investigative reporting! :biggthump

so long as gibb's is in charge I don't believe there is a player attitude wise he can't handle, but if the kid's attitude is really that bad I doubt that he would touch him.

Forget about next year's draft we have the player's were going to need over the next few year's, I say if we are going to go into a draft 1 year without pick's or 1 good pick like this year let it be next year, there is to much talent to pass by this year, as well it will give us a head start for next year as far as expierience and team chemistry, we are trend setter's right now with the way we use free agency, let's continue that, stock up this year and worry about next year when it come's, besides the better we are the better chance of getting a free agent veteran if we have a need in a particular area who is looking for a ring with a very cap friendly contract. this isn't a george allen scenerio we are getting young player's who will be around a while so we can afford to dump some pick's from next year's draft, if we can do it financially I say it's a no brainer, when is the like's of taylor and winslow going to come around again? and when will we have the opportunity to draft 1 of them let alone both, I would dump the entire draft next year, and with the talent we get this year we wouldn't need pick's next year, the following year we would be right back on track.
