Compton and LeRibeus will both contribute next year, these guys take a lot longer to develop.

Nothing they do in the secondary matters if we can't get pressure, its been killing us all season. Worst defense in the NFL on third an long. Look at us against Romo with that line, still couldn't manage any pressure.

Compton could be like Ed Simmons was. Simmons was a 6th round pick, he started the year he was drafted 1987. In Compton's case, I think he will win the RT job next year.

LeRibeus will eventially be one hell of a guard. I cant wait to see how he develops.

His first draft with the Redskins, he drafted T. Williams in the first. In his second draft, he drafted an OL with the second pick we had in that draft (LeRibeus in the third round). Im not sure how after spending a first and a third on OL in 2 drafts that you can then make that claim. His first pick in his first draft and his second pick in his second draft went OL.

Even though im not much for the LeRibeus pick (hopefully im proven wrong), and dont like the Brown trade. The fact is Shanny has paid 10 times more attention to the OL than Snyderatto ever did.

Seeing as it will come up by someone. You can argue whether the Williams and/or LeRibeus picks were worth it til your blue in the face, whether those picks were justified isnt the argument.

What I meant is Shanahan's history of taking offensive linemen high in the draft. Of course there was Trent Williams taken #4 overall in 2010, but historically Shanahan has chosen linemen mostly from the 4th to 7th rounds. The right tackle position is in need of repair also but I don't see Shanahan drafting a RT in the 2nd round. He may get one through free agency. I would like to see Gettis, LeRibeus, and Compton play now but obviously they are not ready. Offensive linemen drafted from the mid rounds on to the later rounds usually have to go through a 2-3 year developmental process. But with an NFL franchise trying to win NOW, who has 2-3 years to wait for them? This is why I think you selected your linemen in the first three rounds if you expect them to start and contribute right away.

Actually in 2008, Shanahan's last season with the Broncos, they drafted LT Ryan Clady in the first round. And in 2007, the Broncos drafted RT Ryan Harris in the 3rd round. Also in 2008, guess who the Broncos drafted in the 4th? Kory Lichtensteiger.

So I think it all depends on the team's circumstances and the players available. The one thing that you can pretty much accurately predict with Shanahan's drafts is that he probably won't invest a high draft pick to choose a running back.

Clinton Portis was the highest drafted running back Shanahan ever took. And Clinton was a 2nd round pick. Mike Shanahan's other running backs were taken in like the 4th-6th rounds.
