:soapbox:So I will be the first to admit that when CBS did the humongoid upclose view of Ray Lewis during the National Anthem I about puked. I don't care who it is(cheerleaders excluded), the networks don't need to do ultra extreme closeups like that. Then Monkeydad posted this in the one thread:

Cromartie was never involved in a murder. :D

It's just interesting how the media "crucifies" Tim Tebow for his faith, even when he just wears a scripture on his eyeblack and doesn't even vocally share his beliefs, and everyone hates him for it...but Ray Lewis gets cameras in his face 24/7 to egg him on for his next over-the-top sermon.

Tebow is legitimately a good person and role model. Ray Lewis was involved in a murder and has impregnated multiple women...and somehow he's the darling of the media?

I bet if RGIII wasn't as successful on the field as he has been, he'd be taking a lot of criticism for his opens displays of faith too. People would give him the same treatment as Tebow just because his mere presence as a Christian athlete would "offend" them.

Redskins QB Robert Griffin III after big win: God is on our side (http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2012/12/04/washington-redskins-beat-new-york-giants-17-16-with-robert-griffin-iii-rgiii-rg3/1744745/)

so rather than delving into religion and networks and athletes over there, I thought I would talk about it here.

Could go in the rant thread too.
How can athletes even begin to think (as Griffin said) that "God is on our side". I get Christianity, or any faith is a) deeply personal, and b) central to an individual's core identity; but how in the world can it be thought that a being who is as majestic as the Christian Lord, or as powerful as Muslim's Allah, or as wise as Buddha, is sitting up high guiding one sports team to victory over another? It makes me think of the gods of Olympus, taking sides and having their parties when one seduces one mortal or another.

Seriously, let's hope God, Allah, et al, are not sitting up on high, with a tv screen and a cosmic sprinkler head waiting for the right time to screw up one team or another.

Anyway, hopefully this doesn't devolve rapidly, but I couldn't read the back and forth, or RGIII's comments that God is on the Redskins side, etc etc, without wanting to scream, God is bigger than that, at least I hope he is.

Ray Lewis is a sideshow and so is Tebow. Ray Lewis is a Pro Football HoF'er, Tebow is a Christian HoF'er. Ray Lewis takes care of his children and Tebow bashes gays in Super Bowl commercials.

There are no saints, only sinners.

Really tastefully done up until you realize the core message of the ad and the people behind it.

If your not an active gay supporter you are anti gay and are bashing them. See we all have to believe 100% what the liberals think is correct or we are bashing.

Correct! Focus on the Family is anti-gay and bashes them at every turn. They are garbage and so is anyone affiliated with them.
