Gosder Cherilus, OT for the Detroit Lions at NFL.com (http://www.nfl.com/player/gosdercherilus/210/profile)
I lose....he went to the Colts.
Would have been a nice grab for us.

I wish Toler had come here. Pissed. Oh well we can draft a CB as good as him in the 2nd.

So call your shot, who is the first significant signing we make today?
I'll throw one out there - I don't think the surprise will be a new signing but rather something involving one of our current players.
More specifically Orakpo and/or Josh Wilson. The cap hit/release fee just doesn't seem right with these guys.

Extensions for them both could free up some nice space

No way they cut Orakpo but I could see a trade.
With Wilson it could be an extension, a cut, or a trade (not sure what trade value he has if any tho).

Redskins would have no pass rush without Orakpo, see last year for a prime example. I do not even think Orakpo is elite, but he is definitely the best defensive player on the Skins (used to be Fletcher but I think time has finally caught up to him).

I don't disagree with you, but if he's really the best D player on the Skins why not extend him like Matty suggested? Coming off the injury and a missed season, Skins would definitely have some leverage. Plus it could save us $2M-$3M on this year's cap.
They could wait and see and let him play out his contract year (with the motivation that comes with it). But if he's lights out he will cost a fortune next year. And if he busts we're left with nothing.
If Skins are sitting on this fence and another team offers some real value, don't we have to seriously consider?

It depends what the Redskins could get in return, I agree with that. But I don't see a team willing to give anything that significant for a player coming of a season ending injury.

So this would have been ballsier to call at 4:00 yesterday, but I'm feeling more and more like we won't resign Fred Davis. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm just not seeing how we'll be able to afford what he'll command, not when teams like Miami are shelling out ridiculous money for average players. The FA TEs that have signed so far have all gotten some pretty generous contracts...
