FRPLG 03-08-2005, 02:16 PM Daseal...
He is getting PAID to play FOR the Redskins. He caught 90 balls. he played WITH Brunell so he knows how BAD he was. He also knows that Gibbs didn't think Ramsey was ready. A professional in that situation would say "Hey, we're going through a rough patch but we have HoF coach with 3 Superbowl rings who has proven in the past that he likes to go downfield. I have an injured toe keeping me from being explosive. I think maybe I'll listen to my coach and trust that he knows what he is doing for the long term success of this team". Did he do this? No he bitched and moaned behind the scenes and caused who knows what type of locker room issues and then blows our cap up without any remorse. He is a punk bitch period. I never post like this. That shows how strongly I feel about this.
FRPLG 03-08-2005, 02:18 PM I know who i believe, and my guy has a healthy toe.
Yeah that was funny. Didn't make laugh 10 minutes ago when I was about to break something in anger but it does now.
offiss 03-08-2005, 02:19 PM What Cole's said is exactly what we saw last season, basically the defenses new what was coming because it was the same old repetitive play's with no ability to deviate from what Gibb's would call a game plan, we all saw it, and screamed about it, but Cole's confirming it is even more troublesome because it was right in Gibb's face and he couldn't see it. I also don't have a prob. with Coles wanting out I know if I saw a coach who was just going through the motion's as far as play calling goes I would want out as well no sense in beating your head against a wall. The problem I have with Cole's is if that's truly his problem then don't hold up a deal when your wish is granted, that's where we part way's, I love Snyder's approach to Cole's good for him, I just wished he would have made good on that threat and teach the guy a lesson in negotiation's and finance.
I certainly hope Gibb's comes out of his shell this year, but I have a bad feeling that the game didn't just pass him buy, it blew by him. And if that's the case Coles is going to look like a genious in more way's than one. [unfortuantly]
Gmanc711 03-08-2005, 02:21 PM "If you want to know how badly Coles and the Redskins needed a divorce, consider this: Redskins owner Daniel Snyder threatened Coles when the receiver's refusal to accept the trade without a contract extension thwarted the deal last month. "He said that if I stayed in Washington, he would turn me into another Terry Glenn," Coles said. (Glenn, now with the Cowboys, missed most of the 2001 season with New England as his public feud with head coach Bill Belichick resulted in various fines, suspensions and ultimately Glenn's benching). "He said he would send a flat-screen television to my home because I'd be better off watching the games there. That was his way of saying I'd be sitting for the next couple years until they cut me."
God I wish Snyder just did that. That would have been the most bad-ass thing ever.

Does anyone around here think for maybe one second that it's possible that Gibss KNEW WE SUCKED ON OFFENSE? I mean half of you all act like he didn't even realize it. HE KNEW. HE KNEW. HE KNEW. I think it is far more plausible that there were deeper talent issues that we don't realize. Football is not that different than it was 15 years ago. You don't go from being a offensive genius to a crappy play caller. We had talent problems. We had injuries. We had line issues. WE HAD A GREAT DEFENSE THAT COULD WIN US GAMES. They played in conservative because they thoguht it the best chance to win. If Joe Gibbs had stroke tomorrow and lost half his football IQ I would still listen to him about how to win a football game long before I would listen to Coles. Or just about anyone else for that matter.
Daseal 03-08-2005, 02:28 PM Man, give me a break. This little turd called calls has made one pro bowl and has pissed off evey team he has played for....SEEEEEEEEEEEEE YA!
Gortiz - guess he pissed off the Jets so bad they traded to get him back...
You think Coles feels like he has time for longterm success? Probably not - careers are short. FRPLG, please, tell me. When was the last time the skins made the playoffs? Everyone acts like we're on the brink of Super Bowl when we have yet to see anything. I saw very little progression in playcalling last year, and as of now I don't have faith that we're going to have an offense that can produce 21 points a game next year. Until I see something that tells me otherwise, I will keep this assumption.
Yeah - Gibbs has 3 rings. Good job - he did a great job back then. I have yet to do him those fabled halftime adjustments, or pull a game out in this era. He gets up by 7 in the first half and tries to run the clock out. You can't do that anymore. You need to be ruthless and put up points.
I think Coles is a bit closer to the situation than any of us. You don't think it says SOMETHING about the playcalling when both starting WRs want to get a ticket out of town? You think that doesn't spell more losses for next year? I'm guessing they've heard next years plan -- and they don't like it.
Coles came here under Spurrier. The fun and gun. The same coach that QB Patrick Ramsey, Coles, and other players weren't shy to say they wanted to stick around for another year. They thought he had it. It's hypothetical, but Spurrier put up points. His biggest downfall was being too stubborn about changing his assistants. If he would have hired D coordinator, D line coach, and O line coach of the Redskins now - I think we could have easily made the playoffs last year, especially in a pathetic NFC.
Coles came here THINKING he was going to be the goto receiver that would get a lot of catches, deep balls, and be the threat everyone knew he could be at Florida state. Gibbs comes in, handcuffs his routes, and called some across the middle that about got him killed (thanks to inaccurate QBing too!)
I can perfectly understand why he wanted out. He didn't go through the media and complained. He tried to keep it between the skins, himself, and his agent. The media got ahold of the leaked information and all of a sudden people turn on him.
I don't see Coles as a "bad guy" for wanting out of DC. He also said if he weren't traded/released he'd play his best next year too. I believe that because he's not the Arrington type to have a greivance and maybe sit out when you don't have to (which I think if he had that 6.5 mil he woulda played a bit more, just my personal view.)
He's not a bad guy, he just feels he was being used incorrectly, doesn't feel the coach believed in him, and didn't feel like he was being used correctly. I don't see that as selfish so much. I don't think that if the team were winning he'd care. Simple fact of the matter is we weren't winning and didn't try anything new to change it. Why not try to put the ball in the hands of one of our best playmakers? Remember - these guys probably grew up elsewhere loving other teams besides the Redskins. It's hard for us to imagine why they want out because many of them didn't grow up Washington fans. Hell, Springs grew up a Cowboys fan! They don't have the loyalty we have and I can completely understand why he wants out. I would have been embarrassed playing in that offense last year.

As my wife astutely said....
"a flat screen would have been cheaper"
Redskins_P 03-08-2005, 02:44 PM Jeez, I almost feel like Daseal knows LC personally..... ;) j/k
SkinsRock 03-08-2005, 02:50 PM This is all about the toe injury. It has been from the beginning. Coles was/is in denial that he can still do what he did before it. Gibbs saw how he performed and used him how he determined was best. Obviously they disagreed.
Also, Coles said he "didn't sign up for" Gibbs run-oriented offense. Well, the Redskins did not "sign up for" a receiver with a bad toe that can only perform at about 80%.
I have no sympathy for this guy.
BrudLee 03-08-2005, 03:08 PM He may not have signed up for a run-oriented offense, but he did sign up for a $13 million signing bonus - which he received in full.
As for whether he was being selfish or not, let's look at the quote again. "People say we're leaving now because we're selfish, but how are you supposed to be happy as a receiver when you go from a passing offense to a running offense? This wasn't what I signed up for."
I think Costanza and Seinfeld spelled it out best.
George: "Why can't there be some things just for me? Is that so selfish?"
Jerry: "Actually, that's the definition of selfish."
